Voters need to see Romney's returns

Why won't Mitt Romney come clean about his tax history? Could it be because voters would handle the information the way they would a discarded tissue?

Though more facts about the nature of Romney's wealth, and the taxes he's paid on his princely income, emerged with the recent leak of 950 pages of financial statements about Bain Capital, the company he founded, the man who will accept the Republican nomination for president tomorrow continues to refuse to release more of his tax returns. His latest reason for not doing so, he told Parade magazine, is that it would reveal how much he and his wife have donated to the Mormon Church.

In an interview with Chris Wallace of Fox News, Romney explained why he didn't do so: "I could have said, 'Don't make any investments in foreign companies, in any foreign bonds, in any foreign currencies, only U.S. entities. And by the way, don't buy any foreign products, don't have any Japanese TVs, or foreign cars.' I could have done that," he said.

Romney insults the voters with his "look this way, not that way" attempt to divert attention from investments people might consider inappropriate for someone who wants to be president. Investing in foreign companies, as he well knows, is nothing like using hyper-complicated business structures and arcane tax laws to reduce one's tax liability.
