President Donald Trumps gaffe in his Independence Day speech that referred to airports during the Revolutionary War took one more step into the history books with its inclusion in the official White House transcript of his remarks.
The comments were included in the official White House transcript of the speech issued Friday. The White House has been known to edit Trumps remarks in the transcripts but not this time.
Heres how the White House recorded Trumps comments:
In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a unified army out of the revolutionary forces encamped around Boston and New York, and named after the great George Washington, Commander-in-Chief.
The Continental Army suffered the bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware, and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown.
Our Army manned the air (inaudible), it rammed the ramparts. It took over the airports. It did everything it had to do. And at Fort McHenry, under the rockets red glare, it had nothing but victory. And when dawn came, their Star Spangled Banner waved defiant.
Trump also erred in this remarks when he said the American army was named after George Washington (it wasnt) and that the Yanks defeated Gen. Charles Cornwallis of Yorktown. Cornwallis was from London; he was defeated at Yorktown, Virginia, in the 1781 battle that essentially ended the Revolutionary War.

(14,494 posts)so that "It took over the forts" became "It took over the airports". It just shows he does not think about what comes out of his mouth.
Like most GOPers, Drumph will say or do anything to avoid admitting a mistake.....

(11,992 posts)The excuse that the teleprompter "went out" makes no sense. Even if he had to adlib, it would be bizarre to come up with an adlib like that out of the blue. It's much more likely that he did see something on the teleprompter and misread it.

Dearest Martha,
As we await boarding at Dulles I have found one of my soldiers who likes to be called "THE DONALD" has contracted the bone spur and has decided to fly standby. I am most certain we will not see him in battle.

(271 posts)for what he said in the speech. I am sure it was caused by Sundowner Syndrome. Being ignorant or a moron will not get him out of the WH. Having Sundowner Syndrome might. It should at least keep him from running in 2020.

Wrong war for one thing, dumbass. And the Brits burned Washington 2 week prior to the "rockets red glare."
