Athletes don't get paid for good sports performance, they get paid for selling.
Male sports sell more so therefore they pay more to their sellers.
If you bring in more fans you will make more money. Sort of like working on commission.

Athletes don't "sell" -- their team owners do, and the gigantic federation does. The women are getting pennies on the dollar compared to the men, and that decision is based on sexism and nothing else.

It's like not offering any high school sports for girls, then claiming girls don't like sports because they don't come out for the sports that don't exist. You know that surge in Olympic female athletes we've had in the last generation? Those are Title IX girls, whose high schools were finally forced to provide some parity with boys' sports.

I know it is frustrating, but to say "nothing else" can't be supported. The owners and gigantic federations would pay MORE to women if it took that kind of money to recruit talent to make MORE money than men would make. Believe me that is true.

The decisions are made on the basis of the bottom line. Staffing and paying competitors is a contractual matter. Nobody is forcing players to compete for "just" $250,000. They agree to that. Nobody forcing the owners to pay multi-millions; that's part of an agreement. All parties have an option to nix it.

I hereby predict that in 2020 women soccer players will make $2Million per year.

Problem solved.

Women's soccer in US brought in more than $23 million in game revenue, about $16 million more than the federation had projected.

After expenses, the women turned a profit of $6.6 million last year. The men? Their profit was just under $2 million (on only $9 million in revenue).

Seems a pretty "bottom line" series of numbers.

What else ya got?

Gratitude.
LanternWaste, thank you for the info above.

I was ignorant about the recent financial figures of the soccer figures.
I hope you will welcome me to your side of the discussion.

If the revenues are that substantial on the women's side vs. the men's, I can support the argument for pay parity.

Really, there is no sarcasm in this. When I'm wrong, I'll own up to it. (This isn't the first time.)

There is a great opportunity for the players' agents to work some contract magic. Maybe some across the league bonuses for further increases in revenue.

I have not reviewed the past year-by-year revenues in the sport. It is interesting that the estimate for the last year was only $7 million and actual revenue was more than triple at $23 mil. Certainly that could justify a kick. (no pun intended)

It would probably expect too much to expect instant parity, but this seems like a good place for a start.

Thanx again, LW.
