End of story. What made that manager think it was stolen? Did she bother to ask the clerk who checked them out? Apparently, she just assumed that it was stolen because black kid.

Fire her stupid ass. Today.

I'm white. And I've been white my entire life. When I was very young, as in my late teens and early twenties, I often was not taken seriously by sales clerks, but that was simply because I looked even younger than I was. I was never profiled, or followed in a store, or refused service. Never.

What some of us don't fully understand is how we live in a completely different world from others.

I've had people come up to me assuming I spoke a language I didn't speak. I've been tailed in stores. I've been talked down to on and insulted on account of my race. I've had a job application circular-filed because I'd have been the only person of a different race in the workplace of 50+ employees.

It may not be consistent, but it's happened.

wearing middle class casual clothing - I could probably walk out with a boatload of merchandise and no one would notice or care. Older white women are pretty much invisible. One time I had a free week trial pass to a gym and after it expired I kept going for free for monthes after because the young twerps at the front desk wouldnt even turn their heads to look at me or my pass when I went in.

The hippie thing btw is much maligned and ridiculed nowadays, but it was partly about being in sympatico with poor and people of color& it did in fact result in many interesting cross cultural experiences that would have been hard to come by otherwise.... got stopped regularly by cops for stupid things, basically they only wanted to check our IDS.

But of course the difference was I could easily change my identity back to what it was ....

She won't be around much longer working at Nike. It's unfortunate, she'll probably only be able to work retail.
