Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter near record for longest-married presidential couple

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter are nearing the record for longest-married presidential couple as the pair celebrates another wedding anniversary.

The 94-year-old ex-commander-in-chief and his wife marked 73 years of matrimony on Sunday. The two wed in Plains, Ga., in 1946.

Former President George Bush and Barbara Bush currently hold the title as the country’s longest-married executive mansion residents. The Bushes were married for 73 years and 111 days when Barbara Bush died in 2018. The 41st president died seven months later, in November 2018.

A then 17-year-old Rosalynn Carter first reportedly declined her soon-to-be husband’s original marriage proposal in 1945. Carter, now 91, ultimately accepted his second proposal during a visit the next year with him at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The couple have four children.

edited to add:
“The Bushes were married for 73 years and 111 days ...
(Carter) and his wife marked 73 years of matrimony on Sunday.”

So, 111 day from now?
Sunday was July 7, 2019 so that means that 111 days from today would be October 26, 2019.

More so nowadays I'd bet ... when you marry at 17-18, though, as people often did back then ... (nt) mr_lebowski Jul 2019 #9

It’s in the article :

“The Bushes were married for 73 years and 111 days ...
(Carter) and his wife marked 73 years of matrimony on Sunday.”

So, 111 day from now?
