I refuse to get my hopes up. Too many times I have burned myself doing this.
I am cautiously optimistic.
What the hearing will provide is putting the Russian hijacking of our elections back into the spotlight. Coming from Mueller himself this should have an impact.
We need smart questions from our party leaders.
Fingers crossed.

(7,142 posts)They need to pick 3 or 4 members from each committee to ask the questions. This will prevent people asking the same question and will help smooth over follow up questions.
I hope this post doesn't get me in trouble.

Maybe Mueller will surprise me, but not counting on it. In fact if Mueller sticks to what he has said so far, it might help trump.

(56,828 posts)Republicans will spend most of their time attacking Mueller and his team. Similar to when Michael Cohen testified, none of them will defend Trump and his actions. Except Justin Amash, if he's allowed to ask questions.
I would hope that Democrats can cede their questions to one or two people, or else have a professional lawyer ask questions (similar to what they were going to do with Barr, who then chickened out) - I think Schiff will be very well prepared, and I hope Nadler is as well.

(8,791 posts)don't expect earth-shaking testimony from Mueller; while Mueller may reiterate parts of the Mueller Investigation Report, the overall impact as to date will be shade rather than clarity. Not much reason to be confident that a critical stab will hit Trump.

(56,828 posts)can have an impact - how many people have actually read the Mueller report or listened to the free audiobook? Half a million maybe? Seeing him repeat what's in the report is going to reach 10 times or 20 times or more of that number on live TV.

(34,661 posts)with this so called Hearing. Is this going to be a white wash? Is this story about something so massive as to change the World Dynamics of Politics?
Something says the Democratic Party Leadership just want to win in 2020 and hope this all just goes away.
When there are only 8 working days for Congress in the next 60,something does not compute.

(7,814 posts)dangerous scandal in our history. Mueller may be one.
Should be more people with hair on fire talking every day about aspects of hacking, blackmail, Kompromat, bribery, money laundering, secret meetings, lying about secret meetings, mobster organizations, a potential reworking of the world order based on conspiracy, counterintelligence investigations, coziness with dictators and authoritarian regimes some of whom are getting nuclear technology etc etc etc.
There are pundits and journalists who are warning us...but elected officials and public officials from both sides of the aisle seem to be more silent than the moment demands.
So much to pursue every single day...yet....
even if we don't have answers yet, the questions should be asked repeatedly.

(6,486 posts)His reluctance to testify and his claim that he won't say anything except what's in his report disturb me and I'm afraid that I know why he acts that way.
Although he never wore a badge or uniform, he is/was a law enforcement officer. The first and highest duty of every LEO is to protect other LEOs, especially crooked ones. It's the blue code of silence. As attorney general, William Barr is also an LEO and obviously a crooked one. In spite of all that's been said about Mueller's devotion to FBI and DOJ, the code of silence is always the top priority. He won't say anything that makes Barr look as crooked as he is.
Same thing with Comey, and it's the reason that Comey's explanations never seem convincing about why he blew up the election with the last minute Hillary hit. He's still protecting the rogue FBI cell in NY that forced his hand in that.
For Mueller and for Comey, the first priority is protecting crooked cops. After that is done, you can talk about loyalty to DOJ, FBI, constitution, rule of law, and whatever, but the first priority is the code of silence.
