1 in 4 Americans say they'll never retire

Nearly one-quarter of Americans say they never plan to retire, according to a poll that suggests a disconnection between individuals' retirement plans and the realities of aging in the workforce. Experts say illness, injury, layoffs and caregiving responsibilities often force older workers to leave their jobs sooner than they'd like.

According to the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 23 percent of workers, including nearly two in 10 of those over 50, don't expect to stop working. Roughly another quarter of Americans say they will continue working beyond their 65th birthday.

According to government data, about one in five people 65 and older were working or actively looking for a job in June.

The AP-NORC Center survey of 1,423 adults was conducted Feb. 14 to 18 using a sample drawn from NORC's probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

With all I'm already paying for medical and other major expenses, there's no way I will ever be able to afford retirement. If I get to the point where I can no longer earn enough money to offset living expenses, I will end my own life on MY terms.

I wish it wasn't this way, but it is.

cost me hundreds per month, too, but I was getting low paying temp jobs more suitable to people half my age.

At 62 I was out of the job market. I wish I could have held out for 5 more years, but fuck it, I'm living far better now. At least I don't have all of the expenses associated with managing a job.
