Ali Velshi on MSNBC has former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz on

A few minutes ago. He's a professor of physics at MIT and was Obama's Energy Secretary. He discussed the news about Iran enriching uranium, that the agreement trump bailed had held Iran to the strictest verification regimen of any nation, etc.

It's a shame we went from such a qualified person to the C student Rick Perry.

and democracy itself. Pesky things that get in the way of making a profit.

Rick is such a dim bulb he didn't know he'd be in charge of nukes. He thought the job was promoting U.S. oil and gas.

4. Did he mention how far Iran is from weapons-grade uranium?

It was just a little story that came out last week in all the hubbub, but someone with actual knowledge (Cheryl Rofer at Balloon Juice? I really don't remember) said that Iran had stockpiled uranium because none of our allies want to buck Trump's new sanctions on Iran and get penalized themselves. But the uranium Iran had on hand was only about 1/20 the enrichment necessary to make a bomb. If you've been following the breathless reporting on this, you could be forgiven for not knowing that Iran is presently nowhere close to having a nuclear weapon.

As hard as it is to believe, the Trump administration might be exaggerating the threat of Iran's uranium, if only the weensiest bit.

6. Yes, he did. The threat doesn't sound imminent to me,

but over time, it could, depending on how quickly they can start up new processing operations with centrifuges, which can't be easy. All of the existing ops are under watch by the IAEA.

5. During the Iran deal, Moniz also proved his diplomatic mettle as well

Remembering that his Iranian counterpart had (a) gone to MIT and (b) had just had a new grandchild, Moniz arranged to give his counterpart a onesie with the MIT logo. It's the moves like this, along with the dedication and expertise of Moniz, John Kerry, and Wendy Sherman, that we got that deal done.

Trump is a FOOL to have walked away from that deal, and we will all pay a heavy price for his stupidity.

It was akin to paying 50% of 12 months rent up front, and not even bothering to move in for a week. There is no way trump can improve on what we had, that I can see. Netanyahu wants the US to fight his war for him. Not happening.
