William Barr on Epstein: "I am recused from that matter. . . "

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

How many people that don't have a college degree get hired at places like that? Even at my public high school, many of the teachers had Master's Degree and a couple had Phds.

Someone posted an excellent article on the guy yesterday. Looks like he has been a highly skilled con artist most of his adult life.

scrupulously follow at all times, whether in line with or against career ethics staff advice.

He is jumping at the opportunity to recuse himself. It does not take a genius to figure out why -- because he knows Trump would ask him to intervene and kill the investigation/prosecution, and he doesn't want to eat that crap sandwich.

because of his previous work at Kirkland and Ellis.

Guess where Deputy AG Jeffrey Rosen also worked? Kirkland and Ellis.

I wonder if he'll also recuse . . . .

https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/william-barr-reveals-has-recused-himself-from-jeffrey-esptein-case-heres-the-reason-he-gave/

When U.S. Attorney General William Barr went through the confirmation hearing process back in January, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) asked Barr if he would commit to launching a “full and thorough investigation” into the way the Department of Justice handled the Jeffrey Epstein case, namely how Epstein’s law-breaking sweetheart deal came to be struck and kept under lock and key.

Barr offered an interesting response to the question: “Senator, I have to recuse myself from Kirkland & Ellis matters, I am told. And I think Kirkland & Ellis was maybe involved in that case, so I need to sort out exactly what my role can be. I will say that if I’m confirmed I’ll make sure your questions are answered on this case.”

Sessions recuses because he was part of the transition team that was being investigated by Mueller. Makes sense, Sessions might be a witness, POI, he might have even done a crime.

Barr recuses himself because a firm he worked for represented Epstein at some time before Barr worked at the firm. Not because he personally represented Epstein, not because he was working there at the time of the representation and might have been privy to information. Doesn't even begin to look as bad as Sessions' situation.

Naw, I don't think we are getting the whole story here. Barr is using recusal as a way to distance his #$$ from Epstein.

Prudence and/or does Barr have inside info already.

Barr likely peeked at the evidence and sees that it is bad for a lot of people, maybe even Trump.

My guess is we start to see more from Pence soon, as repugs try to position him before they toss Trump. If some republicans other than former republican Amash start openly wondering about impeachment, then something big is up.

Maybe Pelosi don't want to impeach him because someone in the know has alerted her that will be a mistake. A chosen by his party Trump facing criminal sex charges will be too much for anyone but the most evil rightwing evangelicals to shrug off. And by association, Trump takes Pence down, instead of us facing a President Pence up for re-election.

One thing that people have missed is that the two cases where then 13 year old girls claim Trump forcibly raped them at Epstein's residences fall right in the window that the SDNY is investigating and charging in. If convicted on his own, Epstein dies in prison or Trump pardons him, either way, not a good situation for Trump.

But if working at Kirkland Ellis is a disqualifier for overseeing the Epstein "matter," that might start eliminating a LOT of high-ranking DOJ attorneys. I wonder if anyone on the case at the Southern District's U.S. Attorney's office worked at Kirkland Ellis, and now those persons might have to recuse themselves, as well?

U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr does not plan to recuse himself from the current investigation into multi-millionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to sources who spoke to CNN and Fox News.

A Department of Justice official told CNN on Tuesday that “Bill Barr has consulted with career ethics officials at DOJ and he will not recuse from current Epstein case.”
