(25,183 posts)this one uses a smallish sample, and Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, and Hindus probably only were a couple of people (from each faith tradition) or not found at all, and cannot be a representative sample of people of their faith on a national survey.
Increase the number polled by a factor of ten, or better yet a hundred, and you might be able to find something meaningful to talk about the opinions of those groups.

(33,643 posts)populations may've been too small to make statistically valid assertions about.
It's possible that out of 1000 randomly sampled people (I don't know the sample size, but as a for instance), there were, say, 6 Jewish people, 3 Buddhists, and 2 Muslims and 2 Hindus ... and those are too small of sample sizes to do any extrapolating with without introducing unacceptable margins of error.
I'm throwing rough numbers out, but that's gist of the idea being conveyed.

(2,052 posts)I know mileage can differ greatly between priests, but it's a central tenet of our faith and my parish has a petition related to refugees almost every week.

(2,052 posts)We're fortunate in that we have a liberal priest and fairly liberal parish. And by liberal, I mean most recognize that there is more to being pro-life than just being anti-choice. Our priest speaks against the death penalty and social injustice and stresses an obligation to love and care for the less fortunate, strangers, refugees etc.
Announcements before every mass include "all are welcome" and, although it may be tacit acceptance, I've never heard him preach the Church view on LGBTQ members from the Catechism.
And, he's not a young priest to boot.

(42,282 posts)When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God (Leviticus 19: 33-34).
Show hospitality to one another without grumbling (1 Peter 4 ).
If your brother becomes poor and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall support him as though he were a stranger and a sojourner, and he shall live with you (Leviticus 25:35).(note: it isn't treat strangers like your brother but treat your brother as well as you would a stranger)
You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt (Exodus 23 ).
Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:1-2).

The Sheep and the Goats
31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
37 Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
40 The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
41 Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.
44 They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?
45 He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
46 Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.
The story of the Good Samaritan is also a good one since it's not just about helping someone but helping someone who's an outsider and considered 'other'. (Samartans and Jews weren't exactly buddies.)
Then of course there's those, "whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them", and "judge not" teachings from Jesus in his 'Sermon on the Mount' (Matt 5-7).
Maybe those who call themselves 'Christian' should stop listening to false prophets like Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson, and others promoting the antithesis of 'WWJD', Trump and actually READ the Gospels or a 'red letter' Bible to learn and try to better follow what, according to the Bible, Jesus taught.

(5,124 posts)The brand of Evangelical Christianity that is advertised ALA the Christian Right - the Jerry Falwell types is downright evil and hateful. Children in cages are just fine as long as judges are on the bench to ban abortions and gay marriage.
