Focus group: Trump's immigration edge

Axios

WARREN, Mich. — The majority of a group of 12 swing voters we spoke to here said they think President Trump is handling the immigration crisis "professionally and responsibly.”

Why it matters: By all accounts, immigration is and will be one of the most important issues of the 2020 presidential election — and it could help Trump win over even some voters who haven't always supported Republicans.

That was the main takeaway from the latest Engagious/FPG focus group I watched here last week, which included nine people who voted for Barack Obama in 2012 and Trump in '16, and three who flipped from Mitt Romney to Hillary Clinton.

Why Warren matters: This town is a small blue area in a red county. It narrowly went for Clinton 51.9% to Trump's 42.7%, but Trump won Macomb County by 48,351 votes. Warren was one of the most divided areas in the county.

This is proof there is a parallel universe.
Are we watching the same news?
Some people just need to be buried alive.

They're watching FOX, OneAmerica, and other RW media, they're listening to Rush and Sean and the rest of the RW radio ranters, they're reading their Facebook feeds.

All these things tell them that swarthy hordes are coming to violently plunder the country. It's the background radiation they bathe in.

Pretty much the same way they were all scared in 2009 that columns of New Black Panther Party stalwarts would march into their towns and begin reigns of terror. Every town in the country. Despite the NBPP having a membership numbers that might fill 2 or 3 school buses, tops.

but there is absolutely no standard by which it can be called professional or responsible. They need to just admit that they are racist and that they approve of cruel and inhumane treatment of those they hate.

the "illegal" message has gotten through. Many think he is right to "round" them up and deport them. They don't get that he's not deporting them, that he's just caging them. The family separation isn't getting enough attention nor is the fact of the money that is being spent vs alternatives

If, after all that has happened and is happening, you aren't sure that president twitter should be voted out of office, go to hell. We don't need your trifling asses.

7. You have alternative voters to draw on?

And if your answer is “disaffected liberals who never bother to vote”, keep in mind that finding them in CA, NY, VT, MD, etc. doesn’t do us any good.

I think this upcoming election is already decided. I think Axios is polling the wrong damned people.

The last presidential race was won by fewer than 90,000 votes in just three crucial electoral college states.

Trump almost won Minnesota, too, of all places. We were shocked here in Minnesota!

No, we need swing voters to vote for our candidate. We can't afford to say, "fuck you" to those people, unless we're ready for more of what we got in 2016. We made progress in 2018, because a bunch of those voters decided to vote for Democrats in the House.

So, yes, we do need their "trifling asses." I suggest we talk to them carefully, and show them why they should join us at the polls. If we do not, the right will say "fuck you" to us again.

Thanks for listening.

It seems they feel the only choices they have are being Trump's too strict policies and open borders.
