Jeffrey Epstein willing to post $100 million bail

Should Epstein be released on bail?

Accused child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein is willing to post bail as high as $100 million, his lawyer said Monday, as a prosecutor argued that the case against the wealthy investor is “already significantly stronger and getting stronger every single day.”

Two accusers of Epstein also urged Judge Richard Berman at a detention hearing in Manhattan federal court to keep him locked up without bail, as prosecutors also are arguing.

Berman said he will wait until Thursday morning to decide whether to grant Epstein bail.

“Your honor, my name is Courtney Wild and I was sexually abused by Jeffrey Epstein at the age of 14,” one of the accusers told Berman. “He is a scary person to have walking the street.” Wild said she was abused by Epstein in Palm Beach, Florida.

He has $100M to fork over as bail? What would that be for a bond, $10M?

Having access to that much liquid money makes him an extreme flight risk in my book. Would you risk spending the remain of your life in prison if you had access to 10 or 100M dollars?

Sorry for not doing the poll.

The fact he is willing to offer that outrageous amount only serves to prove he knows he is buying his freedom with it (I.e. he plans to flee).

Each lewd picture of a child is a ten year sentence, so 150 pictures is 1,500 years. There is no way that any amount of his ill-gotten money that would not be worth leaving behind to avoid a millenium in jail as child molestor.

I take that back, there is one way to get bail. They put a suicide squad type bomb on all 4 limbs, and his head so if he steps out of his home other than a court date or leaves the island of Manhattan then he is blown to a million little pieces.

You know he's going to challenge a decision of no bail in the media and through appeal.

The judge (and clerk(s)) needs time to research precedent and write an airtight decision denying bail. Also, additional revelations over the next couple days like the fake Saudi passport and sackloads of ready cash and jewels for a getaway are quite helpful.

I read he has an apartment in Paris, but it's not that safe from extradition unlike 100 mostly undeveloped countries. Moscow and Riyadh are possibilities. FBI agents had reportedly only searched his Manhattan townhouse, but his business is officially in the U.S. Virgin Islands and he wouldn't be fleeing there, or to Florida.

Poor fellow probably can't follow Marc Rich to Switzerland because the crimes aren't tax evasion but sex trafficking and rape. He could be arrested by Interpol or even legally kidnapped by U.S. agents and put on trial.

So sad. I'm sure Trump agrees.

I mean, I understand that; nobody really wants to spend a lot of time in jail. But Epstein offering up $100 million! Based on his boasting of his net worth, that large amount of money would be like $10 to you or me. I wouldn't want to lose a tenner, but if it provided me with the means to flee the country and avoid responsibility for my life of crime, I'd regard that ten bucks as money well spent.

People like this have a LOT of friends, and some of those friends own long-range private jets. He'd be in a safe house in a country with no US extradition treaty before close of business the day after he was released.

I doubt they have all his "stash" here and if he's blackmailed powerful people, he could easily jump aboard one of their planes to another country, at best has a tenuous extradition process or worse, none at all, which he will no doubt have some gems stored away in a safe place.

This is a man who has had prominent government officials cover for him including the former Labor Secretary and likely a District Attorney (Vance). He failed to report as a registered sex offender over 30 times. He is wealthy, with foreign connections, has the means, and the desire to escape justice.

He needs to be in jail until his trial.

He had to know that it was definitely plausible that his freedom might be threatened by some legal entity in the future. He almost definitely has SOME escape plans ready to be executed given the need and the opportunity.
