But every now and again, Trump has done something egregious enough that it's clear he picked the wrong fight. Usually when that happens, Trump drops it like a hot potato. I think this is one of those instances. There really isn't a defense for Trump's racist remarks, and his standard tactics of deflection and blaming his victims are not really coming through for him on this one.

This episode probably won't grow legs, but by hammering on it for a few days we can more firmly fix in the public mind the notion that Trump is a racist based on his own words and actions. I think it's a low-risk high-reward discussion to have.
