Local Congressman Turner calls President Trump’s comments ‘racist,’ says he should apologize

WASHINGTON — A handful of Ohio Republicans, including Dayton-area Congressman Mike Turner, disavowed President Donald Trump’s tweet urging four Democratic lawmakers to “go back” to their home countries Monday.

“I am confident that every Member of Congress is a committed American,” tweeted Rep. Mike Turner, R-Dayton, in probably one of the strongest rebukes by an Ohio Republican of Trump’s tweets. “@realDonaldTrump’s tweets from this weekend were racist and he should apologize. We must work as a country to rise above hate, not enable it.”

...

Sen. Rob Portman, meanwhile, called Trump’s tweets “divisive and wrong.”

...

And Erin Collins, a spokeswoman for Rep. Troy Balderson, R-Zanesville, said simply that Balderson “doesn’t condone the tweets.”
