He's someone that got swept up into the evangelical movement which moved right into the gutter and took him right along with them. It's sort of a waste as he hasn't put out anything worth a darn since the early 80s because of it. Out doubt he's likely to see the light now.

but then .. stumbled into something like adulthood .. realized a lot of being a "good ol' boy" just meant being trashy, ignorant, and oftentimes racist. "We can skin a buck, and run a trot line .." But your mama still has a black eye, and you don't want em' teaching no damned sex education in school! Sadly, I had to put it all away.

Daniels has been a virulent racist and right winger for years. Can we talk about Willy?

Believe I saw him loooooong ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Enjoyed his Devil Went Down... song, but his politics suck. Just another red neck dumb ass. Not a bit surprised either. Most of those South long beards from day gone by are and were red necks. Got no use for him or his ilk. Maybe that's one of the reasons I've always been so turned off on country music. Too many damned red neck racists and dixie flag wavers.

All the Jesus, dead babies,Military lover T-shirts and bullshit. You can sell crap like that to any Republican walking by and clowns like Daniels knows it.

Funny how in his song he was ALL in 40+ years ago for smoking DOPE while hauling ass down a highway in a car with bad tires. Some like druggy Limbaugh might have said (like he did of others) that they need to LEAVE the Country and move to England and do their drugs.

For one song, “The South’s Gonna Do It” because it had a great fiddle part.

I saw him in concert in 1980. I was only there because I had free backstage passes from a friend whose wife went into labor the night before. Gregg Allman was the draw for me. My only memory of Charlie was, as we were leaving, seeing him shoo away a gaggle of groupies standing by his bus after his set.

Literally.

Daniels did a song back in the early 80's called "In America" that bragged about how "tuff" we all are now.

He even bragged about how "the Eagle and the Bear make a mighty strong pair."

He's also a conspiracy theorist, concentrating on "the Illuminati."

when he opened for the Allman Brothers Band. I can't remember now whether it was in Des Moines or Iowa City. It was a great show, except for two things. Greg Allman was so stoned they carried him out to the keyboard on his bench, and he didn't come to enough to play for 20 minutes. It also was the time of the obligatory 20 minute drum solo. The Allman Brothers had two drummers, so it was a 40 minute solo. 40 minutes of nothing but drumming is a LOOOOONG time.

51. The Devil Went Down To Moscow (with zero apologies to Charlie Fucking Daniels)
Mon Jul 22, 2019, 01:53 PM
Jul 2019

The Devil went down to Moscow, he was looking for a brand new pet
He was ripe for fallin’ for a brand-new Stalin but he really hadn’t seen one yet
When he came across this bald dude, brewin’ up some polonium tea
So the Devil laid his leg on a Faberge egg and said “Boy, come talk to me!”

“I bet you may have heard, dear boy, that’s it’s humans I love to fuck
But I’m wastin’ time, and I’ve searched my mind, and I’m just plain out of luck!.”
The boy said “My name’s Vladimir and you can’t have my soul!
But I’m your man and I’ve got a plan, and it involves a certain orange asshole.

You see, there’s a famous TV star, spent his whole life fleecing the rubes
And it doesn’t really matter that a set of keys is to him like a Rubik’s Cube
He’ll wave the flag, and belch and brag, and talk about blacks and Jews
And it doesn’t really matter ‘bout a thing he says, cause he’ll always lead the news.”

So the Devil logged onto Facebook, and he dropped by Fancy Bear
And he watched the tapes and the teenage rapes by the man with the orange hair
And it wasn’t too long before he figured it out – all he needed was a big hotel
With a quick hack here and a porn star there, he could drag a whole nation to hell

With a great big bag of money, the Devil roamed far and wide
He appeared on Fox, wearing stylish socks, and talked about American pride
And the slack-jawed yokels thronged around every time he made his pitch
And they voted exactly like he told them to, so that they could Trump That Bitch

It wasn’t too many years later, as the planet began to burn
The Devil flew back to Moscow, just to see what Vlad had learned
Vlad leaned back in his chair with an icy stare, and said “I’m feeling slightly numb –
I never thought it would be so easy, or that they were so Goddamned dumb.”

that my choices in music and movies are dictated by the artist/actor's political views.

I think Clint Eastwood is a fantastic actor and director even if he's a Teabagger.

I enjoy much of Ray Stevens stuff despite his far right political bent.

Rage Against the Machine blows but they identify with many of the same political goal I do.

Eddie Vedder brings out much the same reaction from me that Robert Goulet did to Elvis Presley (minus the whole shooting the TV thing). Can't stand his voice or those depressing fucking quasi suicide notes he calls "songs" but he is a progressive.
