(1,777 posts)The Jane Meyer article makes a convincing argument for his being railroaded. But it also shows him as temperamentally unsuited for the presidency (and therefore the vice presidency) and for a national campaign. He was a great senator; wish he still was one.

(424 posts)As much as he should not have walked off the stage, he gets he is inept. His handlers were telling him what not to do. Sound like anyone else?

(43,190 posts)Especially if Biden is the nominee, because then we'll be knocked silly with all the ridiculous non-equivalence of "sexual harassment" by two men who never actually engaged in any inappropriate behavior but have been framed by the right as deviant predators, versus someone who--at the very least--bragged about wanting to grab women "by the pussy."

(10,885 posts)First, this will never happen.
But if it did, I would be thrilled.
Lets say that either Warren or Harris wins the Prez nomination.
And that woman chooses Franken as her Veep.
What if she made this speech when announcing her running mate. (With Franken standing beside her at the podium).
You know, sometimes in politics, we get things wrong. We jump to conclusions. We unrightly jump on bandwagons. Such a thing happened to me and my party a few years ago when we encouraged and actually pressured one of this countrys finest Senators to resign because of some unsubstantiated and unlitigated claims of sexual harassment.
Let me tell you this once...and once only in this campaign right now... Me and my staff have thoroughly investigated and have now debunked all of those claims. The worst we could come up with were some inappropriate comments and some crude unwanted acted out comedic skits.
But I can tell you that they nowhere met the level of requiring a resignation from the Senate.
They nowhere met the level of claims that have been made against our sitting President and many others in past administrations when it comes to sexual improprieties or assaults.
Therefore, with that now behind us...and to the media...it is now behind us...so, get over it.
I now proudly announce as my running mate and the next Vice President of the United States, from the great state of Minnesota, Senator Al Franken.
(Mike drop).
No. It will never happen and it probably shouldnt because it would be a tremendous risk taken by Warren or Harris. But, just imagine if it did.

But a gag photo showing a hand "near" a bulletproof vest, terrible, terrible.

(32,713 posts)I love Al Franken, and it breaks my heart what happened to him. I think he'd be great as a campaign adviser, or perhaps a communications/strategy director for someone high up in Democratic leadership. I mean really high up, as in heading to the White House. He's better off staying behind the scenes and handling stuff.
