He was trying to make the case, consistent with the republican line, that the obstruction charge is manufactured, etc. But he really just drove home the fact that, in contrast to the conspiracy charge they declined to pursue, the office found lots of evidence for the obstruction charge.

There was insufficient evidence to pursue corruption charges.

That wasn't the case with the obstruction charges, but the special counsel saw his hands tied by department policy.

They should focus more of their hearing on that specific question. If they say "No" then that is true that a President could do anything including shoot someone on 5th Ave, and they could not be held accountable until after they leave office.

and the final decision would be with the Supreme Court. And maybe we don't want this Supreme Court to answer that question. But as of now the OLC memo was the only legal authority he had, so he was pretty much stuck with it.

trump. They've switched entirely from "the report clears the president" (which was the argument when the report came out) to the claim that Mueller isn't reliable.

I think that's a pretty surprising turn of events. The last few republican questioners have talked at length about how the report contains all kinds of bad info about trump.

The Republicans are doing what they came to do. The Democrats not so much. Nadler did a masterful job, a few others as well. However, nobody is rebutting the Republican propaganda. Mueller is not the sharpest witness. This is will not help us. If the Mueller hearings were to jump start an impeachment inquiry, then so far impeachment is dead. Hopefully, Schiff and the Intel committee will redeem us.

I think the Dems decided the best thing to do was to read the important stuff in the report so that the average American can see all the obstruction that Trump did. Most Americans are not and will not either read the report or watch the hearings live. After all, most of Americans have busy lives and aren't as politically aware as DU'ers are. This way the soundbites will be the things in the report that will justify impeachment.
