Being in Washington for votes is only one part of Members' jobs. Being in the District with constituents during District Work Periods is also a significant portion of the job duties.

It's a good time to let them know what the people think.

But the most effective way to communicate with constituents is through local media which members will be able to do much more easily when at home in their districts open next few weeks.

This is particularly true given the media strategy, talking points and messaging materials the Democrats are all going home armed with.

They certainly don't need to be in DC to counter tweets and rallies - in fact, they can do it much more effectively spread out across the country instead of congregated in DC.

They will be in their home districts, meeting with constituents. It’s a good time to tell them face to face what should be done about Trump - much better than petitions and emails they will never see.

Bless your heart for trying ...

Have you noticed that the people complaining about Members not spending more time in Washington and the people complaining that Members are out of touch with their constituents are often one and the same.

Maybe they're not really all that upset about either thing but have a different reason for complaining.

It took me 25 years as a public librarian to work up to 5 weeks vacation. And even then you couldn't take more than 2 weeks together at any one time.

They are in recess, which means they are back in their home districts. You will not find them at their lake cabins, but you might find your rep at a town hall meeting if you're interested in talking to him/her instead of complaining about their "vacation."

do your really want to depend on the national media for everything ?

so many people think only time something happens it's if the big national media it's reporting it.
