Empire is but fleeting...

Ozymandias by PB Shelley,1918:

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said: “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed;

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

In the blink of an eye. We see it today. Literally. The final dust of the British Empire will be brushed off as we end up, not even as a United Kingdom, but four disparate countries as the Boris cabinet wreaks havoc. The same is coming to America. Today's states of power and influence are more in danger than at any time in the last 100 years. The next empires will pick over our dusty bones. On the bright side we could interpret this as small reign for Trump and Boris!

....not sure modern America is the greatest legacy of Empire... but hell I cannot think of anything that is, other than we abolished the slave trade (of course that is after starting it in the West!). Oh and we invented steam trains!
