The hearing was a shit show, yet not the one some of the media wants to portray it. The Democrats are in disarray, I think not. The GOP made fools of themselves with their theatrics. You wanted a show, the GOP obliged. Louie takes the cake with a 5 minute tirade, screaming, red faced and spittle flying. Dayum, Jack Nicholson should step aside. Lou wins the Oscar hands down.
Then you had Turner with more theatrics slamming one law book after another on his desk , to make his point on exoneration. Dayum that was an impressive stack of books! Bet as a kid he surpassed in building blocks.
You wanted a show and the GOP surpassed expectations. Everyone of them proved beyond a shadow of a doubt who's side they are on, Trump/Russia, the USA be damned. THIS is the biggest takeaway from that hearing.
As for MR Mueller, a fair and precise man with a sharp legal mind. He is a by the books kind of guy and follows the word of law as he as done his entire life. He is a war hero and a leader.
The pundits and others called him frail, bumbling and disheveled. Unable to answer the questions instantly without asking the page that was being quoted. Fact. That was a 400 page report that took two years to compile. Fact. Mueller had dozens of legal minds working on that report. Their were other investigations that were handed over to the proper authorities and are still under investigation. Who here has instant recall? Who here has memorized a 400 page legal report and has no need to check their notes. As for the questions he refused to answer? It is a fact that the investigations are far from over and he can not comment on an ongoing investigation.
Whoa, then their is the ageism. Mueller is 75 and said to be to old and frail and failed at the job he was hired for. I think some here should rethink that...considering our candidates.

(54,770 posts)Especially in the afternoon where Mueller tempered his comment in the opening statement that they found no evidence of conspiracy/cooperation.
If only hed walked in with a Lock Him Up hat.

(115,832 posts)and strangled Brian Williams (whom I usually don't mind because he's at least polite) because he would not STFU about how "frail" and "feeble" Mueller seemed. At least Frank Figliuzzi, while acknowledging that his age was showing, made the point that the content of his comments would have been the same whether he was 64 or 44. But Williams wouldn't shut up about Mueller's "performance" for a good 20 minutes and I finally turned off the TV.
It further pissed me off to see similar comments on DU.
It's not MTV, folks.

(25,323 posts)Rep. Jeffries: "We weren't trying to entertain the American people. We wanted to educate and inform the American people. We didn't invite Robert De Niro to testify. We invited Robert Mueller to testify, and in that regard, he delivered what we expected."
They want a show, buy a ticket to a Broadway Show.
Good on Mr Jefferies.

entertained by democracy at work.

(32,626 posts)and who made the decision to attack on the basis of entertainment value and age. Well orchestrated, but apparently there wasn't much to work with. Can't get into what was actually said. What's a cable newsy to do?

(5,591 posts)the exact location/citation of any phrases they used from the report so there would be official documented written hearing records.
Too much expectations of a Reality Show drama.
Questions were answered. On record.
Im reserving final judgment of the entire 6+ hours (I watched every minute though some, cough cough parts were muted) until we all see what the next steps Congress must/will take.
There is still more to this than meets our partisan eyes.

(16,937 posts)Why can't we - ALL AMERICANS - see the ENTIRE report?
Have all members of the Congress seen/read the ENTIRE report?
How can anybody defend/criticize that which they have not read?
IF you have nothing to hide, why-
1. fight tax returns disclosure
2. fight release of government investigations
3. stop aides from testifying
4. file suits to stop investigations
Really, these ARE questions that need to be asked - and we need OUR government officials (yeah, the Democrats) out there asking them every single day!

(83,879 posts)I was taking care of mom, so was in and out. Someone said the head of the FBI hadn't even read the report. Unfugging believable.
Our Democracy is at stake and they can't be bothered to read the report, redacted though it is.

(51,626 posts)about CNN starting to run ads for the televised testimony. It was so super hyped I immediately had a negative reaction. CNN was advertising it like it was a celebrity sporting event, cheap, sensationalized and tacky! It was obviously all about ratings and $$$. When I complained about this fact I made it clear that the testimony should be televised but I objected to how it was being set up. No wonder it was "underwhelming" as far as entertainment goes.
The M$M gave us the fucking moron and they will reelect him too...all for the almighty dollar. Fuck this shit!

Ageism? There are some 40, 50yr olds who couldn't keep up with JB or BS! There are *HUGH* physical and mental differences in older folks. So, do not judge folks by their age, look at their mental acuity and productivity.

Choose his words carefully, and refer back to the report.
He was basically saying . . . it's all in the report, go read it, how the powers that be take it from here, is up to them.
Those people who expected Mueller to lead an insurrection and storm the gates of the White House to physically remove Trump & Co by force, will be disappointed by the hearing.

(14,587 posts)We did fine.
The media spin is just that - 'spin' designed to increase advertising revenues so their shareholders can make better profits. Has nothing to do with reality of Dems getting Mueller to state some very damaging things to Trump on national television.
Mueller did fine. The Dems did fine.
The Republicans, not so much. And you can see that now the way Trump is freaking out and tweeting all this psycho shit about Elijah Cummings being a racist and Baltimore being infested. Boy, he's getting some massive (and well-deserved) blowback on that.
