If states are going to require a photo ID to vote, why not allow the post office to provide a federal photo ID. Almost every town has one or more local post offices, which would make it more convenient than going to a distant motor vehicle department or license renewal center.

(4,482 posts)In PA, if you don't have a driver's license, you can obtain a photo ID at the driver's license center. There are only two centers in my area, many miles away; and there is always a long line. There are two post offices within three miles of my house.

(13,225 posts)and was told that although the license center was open that there were DIFFERENT hours for photo IDs. It is more than an hour drive round trip and I had to make another trip.
I agree that it should not be that difficult or confusing. But obviously there are people who want exactly that to supress the vote.
