I just learned what the red pill and the blue pill mean.

I learned it from the Internet of course, where else do I learn anything?

Anyway, the red pill means you want to see the truth and to be an active citizen who is dismayed, I mean, cares about, the direction the country is going. The blue pill means you are content to be a slave. You decide to love Big Brother. (You might define them somewhat differently, but I guess you follow my general idea.)

OK, I’m just saying it would’ve been easier if they did the pills the opposite way. For instance when we say a state is red, it means it is full of people who are conservative, intolerant, and accept everything the dotard throws out to or at them. If an area is blue, that means those people are progressive and willing to stand up for Social Justice. Or at the very least, care about it.

It just would be easier for me to remember the terms if they had done it the other way. LOL.

I think Rachel Maddow has 'taken the red pill'. OTOH most of media has done otherwise.

They suggested that "taking the red pill" is realizing all the misogynistic, poisonous "truth" they spread in their creepy web hangouts.

In came out in 1999 so red/blue might have already been in our lexicon. Maybe they just picked one and went with it.

and was coined by Tim Russert during that election.

So, the movie, written before that election would have not had any relation to politics. They just picked two colors.

It also is reversed from a lot of the rest of the world, where Red is usually Left (think Labour) and Blue is oft-times RW/Conservatism (think Tories).

Morpheus wants to recruit Neo and offers him two pills:
Take the blue pill and you will forget that this meeting ever happened. You will wake up in your bed, believing whatever you want to believe.
Take the red pill, and he will show you how deep the rabbit-hole really goes.

You see it a lot in the “no license required to drive” and “secret account” groups. Taking the red pill means signing on to whatever crap they’re peddling. Taking the blue pill means not “doing your own research” and allowing the government to continue to control your life.

I bought The Matrix from the $5 rack at Big Lots and watched it sober. This is definitely a movie that calls for strong drink to keep you from the truth, which is that The Matrix is the silliest movie ever made.
