CNN Morning Briefing:The weekend's presidential tweetstorm was all about Baltimore ... The city's leaders and residents are outraged after President Trump attacked Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings and described his district as a "rat and rodent infested mess." In a scathing rebuke titled "Better to have a few rats than to be one," the city's main paper described the President as "the most dishonest man to ever occupy the Oval Office, the mocker of war heroes ... the useful idiot of Vladimir Putin." Choking back tears, CNN's Victor Blackwell also defended his hometown, saying Trump uses the word "infested" only when talking about black and brown people. But Trump doubled down on his attacks, firing off several tweets applauding his work on African American issues and calling Cummings incompetent.
Baltimore stands up for its city after Trump tweets 'no human being would want to live there'
By Madeline Holcombe, CNN
(CNN) - Baltimore did not take President Donald Trump's recent attack of the city lying down. Instead, Charm City was quick to stand up and fight back.
Trump lashed out at another prominent African American lawmaker on Saturday, tweeting that his Baltimore district is a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess."
The President's tirade was directed at House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, who represents Maryland's 7th Congressional District in the House and recently lambasted conditions at the border. Trump's attack against Cummings was the latest verbal assault against a minority member of Congress who is a frequent critic of the President.
The President suggested that conditions in Cummings' district, which is majority black and includes parts of Baltimore, are "FAR WORSE and more dangerous" than those at the US-Mexico border and called it a "very dangerous & filthy place."

Newsletter: Those seeking access to Trumps tax returns now wait for Gov. Gavin Newsom

One of two storylines will emerge from Californias capital city this week about President Trumps long-standing refusal to release his income tax returns.
The first Sacramento scenario: Trump will be threatened with the embarrassment of being the first person blocked from appearing on Californias primary ballot next November. The second: Gov. Gavin Newsom will disappoint many of his fellow Democrats by refusing to ratify the effort. https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2019-07-28/trump-tax-returns-gavin-newsom-politics-newsletter
Presidential tax returns: It started with Nixon. Will it end with Trump?
Donald Trump is positioning himself to become the first president in 40 years to refuse to release his tax returns in office.
Such a refusal would overturn a precedent maintained by every president since Jimmy Carter -- and extend Trump's refusal to make his returns public during the campaign.
In fact, a CNN poll in October found that 73% of registered voters surveyed thought Trump should release his tax returns for public review, including about half of Republicans.

(11,885 posts)2. So media and members of Congress
Need to target him and Epstein, Putin, and trump's taxes instead of letting him manipulate the news cycle, again to something he uses to incite his base with. He's playing the media and others by doing this using race.
