According to a report in the New York Times, White House officials held a frantic meeting on Monday attempting to figure out a way to rein in Donald Trumps increasing use of overt racist rhetoric but that no one was sure how to tell him.
After a weekend of attacks on Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), the Times reports Several White House officials expressed agreement during a senior staff meeting on Monday morning that the presidents attacks were a bad move.
According to sources, the members of the meeting arrived at their conclusion but they were uncertain who could intervene with him or if anyone would even dare try.
No one in the White House would admit that the presidents attacks on Cummings and now on MSNBC personality Al Sharpton were part of a grand plan, saying Trumps was ramping up his Twitter raging purely on impulse.
The report notes, White House officials have concluded, that any political benefit he might derive by revving up his conservative, largely white base could be offset by alienating more moderate voters in the suburbs of states like Wisconsin and Michigan that he needs to win a second term.

(16,616 posts)that stories like this won't get them forgiven once Trump is out of here. None of that Anonymous-letter "we secretly tried to save he country from Trump" stuff is going to sit well with the 70% of Americans who spent four years waking up in the middle of the night wondering what this powder keg had done to the country while we were sleeping. I really don't want society to accept them back in any way, shape or form. Fox News might hire them, but their socially acceptable careers should be over IMO.

(11,361 posts)totally agree. The stench from this association is one that should not wash off. Just remember .. you were willing to serve beside this pile of filth, knowing full well what he was, to further your own agenda. You have no morals. Period.
(on the other hand, what remains of the Republican party after this administration .. will be a swirling cesspool of rot and corruption .. so having no character or morals may not be that big an impediment)

(15,355 posts)There was no fucking meeting!
There was no attempted intervention!
This is all just a ploy to try to convince you that there are "decent" human beings in this White House.
That way they can get the story out to our stenographers so they can go; "aww... look, they're not all raging fuckstick racists".
It's something that a 4th Grade drama student would write into the spring play to "humanize" the inhuman.
Fortunately for the White House, our media stenographers operate on a 3rd grade level, so it goes over their heads and into the "story".
The racists want this "story" out there to deflect and confuse.
