Profit Seeking Parasites

Facebook post by Thom Hartmann

We Need to Get Profit-Seeking Parasites Away From the Public Good

CNN and so-called conservatives keep worrying about how we’re going to “pay for” things like Medicare for all and free college at the Democratic Debates. It’s the completely wrong frame and question.

Americans have been ripped off for far too long in the areas of healthcare and education. Healthcare, being essential to life, is a public good. Therefore the delivery of healthcare should not be an opportunity for somebody to make a profit. This is a public function, which is why it’s time to move health insurance companies into the appropriate realm of providing nonessential services to rich people and let the rest of us get healthcare at a reasonable cost, just as is done by every other developed country in the world.

The same is true of education. We need to get profit-seeking parasites out of these public realms, to provide safety and security for Americans, and reinvigorate our nation.

We need to rid ourselves of the parasites in our health care system and our educational system. Then we can get rid of the fourth branch of government...the military profiteers.

Healthcare is a basic human right - the consequence of not being able to get it may be death.

"When there's a common function for society that the majority of Americans want and there's no benefit for there being competition in that task, then why add a layer of profit to the taxpayer's bill?"

That applies to, for example:
* Public schools,
* The military,
* Infrastructure such as roads and bridges, and
* Basic foundational healthcare.

We say:
"Would you be OK with buying two or three rights-of-way for competing roads instead of just one so we can have free-market freedom of choice in our travels?"

or

"Shouldn't we require farmers out West to repay the public for decades of free use of Homestead Act Lands? After all, wasn't that really communism in disguise?"

or

"Shouldn't we be giving our soldiers free-market choices for which boot camp they attend? After all, you're demanding choice of where you send your kids to primary school"....

Being highly hypocritical in their views, that should set them back for a minute......
