Current Rumored House Retirements

Politico published a retirement watch list based on rumors floating around Capitol Hill. The list is made up of a handful of older members, moderate members, those facing difficult reelections and, of course, the two lawmakers currently under indictment.

Their predictions: Reps. Hal Rogers (KY), Jim Sensenbrenner (WI), Don Young (AK), Fred Upton (MI), Greg Walden (OR), Michael McCaul (TX), Kenny Marchant (TX) Ann Wagner (MO), Duncan Hunter (CA) and Chris Collins (NY).

In the last two weeks, five House Republicans have announced their retirements. While the uptick in lawmakers calling it quits has made some nervous, most of the departing members are from red districts.

13. True. Hunter goes on trial in Sept. on federal corruption charges, if he doesn't cut a plea deal.

He could run from behind bars. Hope he does - it's probably the only way Dems could win this red district though his Dem challenger is well funded and came close last time, after Hunter was already indicted.

If Hunter quits and a Republican without all the baggage runs, the district is more likely to stay red. Of note,it is now the only one of San Diego's 5 Congressional districts still controlled by Rethuglicans.

He's my rep and our local Indivisible group has been pursuing him. That would be great news!

6. It wouldn't surprise me at all if both Marchant and McCaul retire

Both of their districts include suburban areas that have really shifted to the Democrats in the last four years. In 2018, McCaul only won by 4 points and Marchant by 3. They can see the handwriting on the wall, and it's all in blue.

Pete Olson and Will Hurd have retired. Marchant and McCaul are also on this list. Texas will be a battleground state

Even when I lived in his district, he told me he didn’t have time to talk to me because I was out of district.
