I can't stand these bastards! They refuse to do ANYTHING to reduce gun violence. Not one thing. It makes me so angry.

I was on DU at the time and it made no sense to me. I kept thinking that it just had to be reinstated before very long - and I'm still waiting!

And it still doesn't! It upset me a great deal so it stuck in my mind - after Sandy Hook and all the tragedies before and since! What does it take?!

When one of their own was shot - Steve Scalise - I was sure this would have some impact. But even he, who had to have endured considerable pain and agony, is still opposed! What in the world does it take??!!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Congressional_baseball_shooting

On June 14, 2017, during a practice session for the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity in Alexandria, Virginia, James Hodgkinson shot U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, U.S. Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner, congressional aide Zack Barth, and lobbyist Matt Mika. A ten-minute shootout took place between Hodgkinson and officers from the Capitol and Alexandria Police before officers fatally shot Hodgkinson, who died from his wounds later that day at the George Washington University Hospital.[7][8] Scalise and Mika were taken to nearby hospitals where they underwent surgery.[9]

Hodgkinson was a left-wing activist[10][11] from Belleville, Illinois, while Scalise was a Republican member of Congress. The Virginia Attorney General concluded Hodgkinson's attack was "an act of terrorism...fueled by rage against Republican legislators".[12] Scalise was the first sitting member of Congress to have been shot since Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot in 2011.

My sister from California was visiting me then and I wasn't paying much attention to DU.

Thank You for that info, Rhiannon.

Something like that would be important for Colbert to do.. keep it always in the public eye... even when it's not spread across the newspapers and tv.

And it can't be easy for him or his writers since he is determined not to leave anything out - that's why he did his show live after the debates, he wanted to be up to speed on the latest news. Tomorrow's show should be interesting...
