I can't stand these bastards! They refuse to do ANYTHING to reduce gun violence. Not one thing. It makes me so angry.

I was on DU at the time and it made no sense to me. I kept thinking that it just had to be reinstated before very long - and I'm still waiting!

When one of their own was shot - Steve Scalise - I was sure this would have some impact. But even he, who had to have endured considerable pain and agony, is still opposed! What in the world does it take??!!

A ten-minute shootout took place between Hodgkinson and officers from the Capitol and Alexandria Police before officers fatally shot Hodgkinson, who died from his wounds later that day at the George Washington University Hospital.[7][8] Scalise and Mika were taken to nearby hospitals where they underwent surgery.[9]

Hodgkinson was a left-wing activist[10][11] from Belleville, Illinois, while Scalise was a Republican member of Congress. The Virginia Attorney General concluded Hodgkinson's attack was "an act of terrorism...fueled by rage against Republican legislators".[12] Scalise was the first sitting member of Congress to have been shot since Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot in 2011.

Something like that would be important for Colbert to do.. keep it always in the public eye... even when it's not spread across the newspapers and tv.

And it can't be easy for him or his writers since he is determined not to leave anything out - that's why he did his show live after the debates, he wanted to be up to speed on the latest news. Tomorrow's show should be interesting...
