No Way Out

The consequences of the horrific events of the past few days, which were immediately preceded by “send them back” and the attacks on Cummings, seem to be evolving into the perfect nightmare for Trump and the GOP.

We watched as Trump ratcheted-up his racist rhetoric – and then we watched one of his devotees gun down innocent men, women, and children because he feared the ‘Hispanic invasion of Texas’ that he’d been told was imminent by Trump himself.

And so the nation saw it for themselves, right there on the evening news – cause and effect, in all its gory detail.

But the nightmare gets worse. Not only is their “pResident’s” overt racism becoming more blatant, the consequences thereof led to yet another mass shooting – bringing the Republicans’ failure to act on the issue of gun control back to the forefront at the same time.

And still the nightmare gets even worse. The topic of white supremacy yet again rears its ugly head, and phrases like “Mexicans are rapists” invariably come to mind – even the minds of those who dismissed such phrases as meaningless up until now, and are now hearing them in a whole new light.

It’s the kind of political nightmare that there is no escape from. The first PR deflection, blaming video games and mental illness, has already failed – and there is no Plan B.

Trying to deny Trump’s racism has now entered the same realm as denying he’s ever told a lie. The truth is out there – in Trump’s own rally speeches, in his vitriolic tweets – and we are far beyond the point where the statement about ”very fine people on both sides” can be viewed as anything other than a sense of solidarity with tiki-torch-wielding idiots chanting Nazi slogans.

For those of us who recognized Trump for what he is from day one, those of us who despise what he is doing to our country, those of us who have patiently awaited what could be The Perfect Storm that takes him down – the day of reckoning might finally be at hand.

And while all of the above is playing out, throw into the mix the fact that even Trump’s ‘base’ is wondering why those coal-mining jobs never came back as promised, why farmers are going bankrupt due to Trump’s tariffs, and why – in the midst of this ‘great economy’ – their wages are stagnant, and those much-touted tax-cuts went to the wealthiest citizens and corporations.

The tragedy in El Paso has stirred the pot – and has done so with a very deep-reaching spoon. That’s when the burnt bitterness at the bottom of the pot gets scraped-up and rises to the surface – and a lot of people are finally realizing that the resultant soup is ultimately unpalatable.

WE – the moral, the decent, the humane among us – will prevail. And it is Trump himself that will ensure that we do.

Instead of:
"For those of us who recognized Trump for what he is from day one"

This:
"For those of us who recognized Trump, and Republicans, for what they are from day one"

I cannot give the creature all the credit, to me he is just an imbecile who has found his usefulness as a decoy and Putin's bitch, we must be gracious and give repubs their recognition in this chaos.

Just a thought.

That the GOP was going to suckle up to the worst president in US history.

While it's always been evident that the Republicans simmered with racism, dishonesty, and selfishness, and were only out for the big, rich donors, I was truly stunned at how readily they sold out the tenets of the Constitution and our democracy.

If the economy starts to tank, as is predicted, that could seal the deal.

Thanks for the glimmer of hope.

I won't hold my breath on this. There have been seemingly infinite "this could be it" moments with this trump; from the moment he announced his candidacy up until whatever the idiotic thing was he said 10 minutes ago.

Move over Gotti, THIS is the true "Teflon Don".
