TIME's new cover: "We are being eaten from within."

TIME's new cover: "We are being eaten from within." Why America is losing the battle against white nationalist terrorism

.....long before that young man drove to El Paso, Texas, on Aug. 3 and allegedly murdered at least 22 people at a Walmart crammed with back-to-school shoppers, it was clear that white nationalists have become the face of terrorism in America. Since 9/11, white supremacists and other far-right extremists have been responsible for almost three times as many attacks on U.S. soil as Islamic terrorists, the government reported. From 2009 through 2018, the far right has been responsible for 73% of domestic extremist-related fatalities, according to a 2019 study by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). And the toll is growing. More people–49–were murdered by far-right extremists in the U.S. last year than in any other year since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress in July that a majority of the bureau’s domestic-terrorism investigations since October were linked to white supremacy.

.................

Then there is the problem of a Commander in Chief whose rhetoric appears to mirror, validate and potentially inspire that of far-right extremists. The screed posted by the suspected terrorist in El Paso said he was motivated by a perceived “Hispanic invasion of Texas.” President Trump’s campaign has run some 2,200 Facebook ads warning of an “invasion” at the border, according to a CNN analysis. It’s a term he regularly uses in tweets and interviews. “People hate the word invasion, but that’s what it is,” he said in the Oval Office in March. “It’s an invasion of drugs and criminals and people.” (The El Paso shooter said his actions were unconnected to Trump. A senior Administration official told TIME that the criticism linking the President’s rhetoric to violence was “unfortunate, unreasonable and obviously politically motivated.”)

...............

As President, Trump has repeatedly downplayed the threat posed by white supremacists. He famously blamed “both sides” for violence at a white-nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., in 2017. Asked if he saw white nationalism as a rising threat in the wake of a March attack on two New Zealand mosques by an avowed racist who killed 51 people, he countered, “I don’t really. It’s a small group of people.”

It was when they also hounded out Van Jones for being a confirmed Socialis; PBO's administration threw quite a few people under the bus to assuage the RWNJ.

But as I recall, the DHS had created a report detailing the threat of white nationalist/supremacist terror in this country during the Cheney/Bush administration. That report was completed just previous to Obama's inauguration. Napolitano withheld publication because of political pressure from the Right, which is to say, the report was suppressed because the GOP and the white terrorist organizations it looks to for votes didn't want it made public.

I was angered when Obama tossed Van Jones out of his administration, but I was, and remain, completely shocked when Napolitano withheld publication of an official report on the threat posed by domestic white terrorist groups that had been written by Bush/Cheney people.

While I have the deepest respect for Obama and truly wish he could have run for a third term, there are things he allowed during his 8 years that History will be right to question and judge harshly.

We lost her as governor of Arizona when she took this post and haven't been able to get a Democrat back into the statehouse since.

That was the beginning of the whole "papers please" BS. I don't think Obama should have given up a Democratic governorship. IIRC, the Arizona GOP then caused some huge voting obstacles that made a difference in later elections which a Democratic governor might have helped prevent.

And Democracy will prevail. I wish all hatred could be gone, but that just won't happen. Human beings have the tendency to hate no matter what.

Remember that t-rump, his family, the administration and cabinet and GOPs are overall white nationalist. We must vote them out.

Are people still open carrying?

How many 911 calls are made when they are seen doing so?

I have a constitutional right to feel safe which over rides some assholes right to freak people out.

At least concealed carry isn't usually an assault rifle.

Here's a chilling statement from the article:

More people were killed that day in El Paso than all 14 service members killed this year on the battlefields in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

I believe that sooner than later, white supremacy will be defeated. Like many of these vile groups of people, they will eliminate each other. These people are not loyal to anyone, not even within, they are crazy and have a thirst for blood, and they will drink it no matter where it comes from.

I believe the next president will start a campaign to make them disappear, they won't win.

People have to come to a clear conclusion here and that is, Trump is not good, in any way, for the security and prosperity of the United States of America. Donald Trump is a dubious criminal full of his own ambitious corrupt motives designed to help no one else but himself. To sugar coat the obvious does not help the situation.

Donald Corruption Trump must go!

He is a destroyer.
