Acting customs and border protection commissioner Mark Morgan said Sunday that the mass immigration raids at Mississippi workplaces last week were not raids, disputing the terminology that has been widely used to describe the operation.
I think words matter. These arent raids. These are targeted law enforcement operations, Morgan said on CNNs State of the Union.
Acting homeland security secretary Kevin McAleenan, meanwhile, said he regretted the timing of the raids, which were carried out just days after a mass shooting in which a gunman killed 22 people at an El Paso Walmart. The suspect told authorities that he was targeting Mexicans, according to police.
The timing was unfortunate, McAleenan said on NBC Newss Meet the Press

why in god's name would they need to "raid" the plants causing confusion and fright, why not sent them a letter telling them to check in?
why put their children and families thru the trauma?

(12,712 posts)I guess the dictionary needs to updates its definition of raid to include his intended new speak nuance:
1a : a hostile or predatory incursion
b : a surprise attack by a small force
2a : a brief foray outside one's usual sphere
b : a sudden invasion by officers of the law
c : a daring operation against a competitor
d : the recruiting of personnel (such as faculty, executives, or athletes) from competing organizations

(51,613 posts)since it is too similar to what they are actually thinking they are doing..."stop invading pests in their tracks" is their motto at ICE. They just can't use these words on TV...not good for their image.

How many of the people that hired these "illegal workers" were arrested?
Isn't knowingly hiring illegals also breaking the law?
