If somebody time traveled back into the past, say the 1950s,

If somebody time traveled back into the past, say the 1950s, And took their cell phone, fully charged, with them, could They use it at all? I mean obviously you couldn’t send text or messages but could you use the Notes or the Camera?

but remember the prime directive. your little "notes" app would require a warehouse full of vacuum tubes to operate in 1955.

I had one in my Buick station wagon. Well it was a land line. No actually a car line. Whatever.

It was mounted under the dash. I remember when I was at the top of a hill I could access another tower in the next county and get free long distance. Great for having long chats with family.

That is phones utilizing celluar technology.

The very first cell phone call made was April 1973.

Prior to that, there were radio phones that were extremely localized (and expensive).

I made my kids take typing as summer courses. They didn't like it, but they're glad now. It provided many jobs for me.

for all the wrong reasons. To be with the girls. But when I went into the Army, it was a highly regarded skill in communications via teletype etc. Then later when computers took over telephone communications (common control switching) the skill was even more valuable

I don’t know why someone traveling back in time would affect my phone at all.

The tough part of time travel appears to be the sudden pronoun shift.
