Maybe we could propose something a little simpler...

Let's ban the carrying of shoulder fired weapons (rifles, shotguns, anything with longer than a 6" barrel, etc) inside city limits of, say, any town 50,000 (negotiable) population or bigger.

No open carry, no concealed carry, no rear window rifle racks. Keep them in your trunk if you must drive around with them.

Nationwide.

How about: Possession of ANY Semi-Automatic firearm requires:

1. 6 month waiting period for 1st time purchasers.
2. Twice-yearly participation in unorganized militia training, AKA Marching Up and Down the Square.
