On Rape and Incest...

Steve King has been heavily criticized for asking idiotic questions about whether there would be any population left without rape and incest.

Perhaps he is an outlier for stating it so bluntly. But make no mistake about it, he isn't alone.

Anyone who believes in the literal interpretation of the Bible thinks this way.

Part of the reason I say this has to do with the casual way that the brutality of the Old Testament is simply accepted as the "Will of God". Many of the revered characters in the OT were sociopathic bastards. Especially when it came to women.

But it is even more fundamental than that. If you believe that all life came from Adam and Eve, then you inherently believe in incest. Their offspring were all siblings so how the hell else could there be subsequent generations?

there are over 3 billion females on today's earth. you don't have to rape your sister anymore.

genesis 19, of course, makes all the raoe and incest the women's fault.

It would be rogue society in which Steve King could not survive for very long.

So of course man made God a man. He even co-opted the birth process & crafted Eve from one of Adam's ribs.

Rape has been a common feature of human warfare since forever.

King's a dipshit but Rape was common as dirt in human prehistory. Hell, in human history - even now with Boko Haram and their ilk.

Not to mention slavery.

Still, we would like to think that we have moved forward from the beliefs of ancient times.

And yet, an acquaintance of mine claims that King's mother was raped by a bulldog.

Adam and Eve's children engaged in incest. But they insist it wasn't as bad as incest now, because sin had only just been introduced into the world, and hadn't corrupted people's genes and caused aging and death long enough to really affect people who bred with their siblings. But as time went on, and people lived shorter lives (because of the genetic damage caused by sin), incest was discovered to be harmful as well.

Not even kidding. This is how they explain it.

The depths that people have to go to convince themselves of something. Every wrongheaded thought leads to a dozen other levels of skewed thinking to prop up the initial bizarre thought process.

On a related off-topic note, we saw a fascinating documentary on the Flat Earth movement this week called "Behind the Curve". A big thread in that movie is just how far these people need to go in order to flesh out their beliefs. In order for the earth to be flat, they basically have to dis-believe all kinds of shit. They even go to the trouble of designing experiments to prove their theory and then just disregard the outcome. Fascinating and truly mind-boggling. very well made documentary though.

You sound rather defensive... hitting a little too close to home?
