Amazon Prime has a great doc, An Honest Liar. So relevant!

It’s about and by The Amazing Randi and his debunking of paranormal claims. I’ve always been fascinated with that kind of thing, but right now it’s remarkable for its depiction of how desperately people want to believe, even when, particularly when, the con is revealed.

There’s a tragic kicker too, that I’ll leave for y’all to find out. But it’s so worth watching. I feel sad for those who are desperate enough to be conned and so hurt and shamed they can only double down.

45 is just another one. Media gives him illusion and near infinite bandwidth. Hopefully his time is nearly up.

I'm just finishing re-watching Downton Abbey in time for the Sept 20th feature film release. I liked it on tv and even better the second time around. It is nice to get some $$ worth out of Prime since I'm not ordering so much lately.

You would have thought that the information age would have decreased the amount of quackery and scammers out there, but it's increased it. Instead of a way to verify what is real, the internet has become a way to muddy the waters.

Now more than ever we need people like the Amazing Randi.

What's telling about our culture is that after the Amazing Randi completely humiliated Uri Geller on TV and exposed him as a fake, instead of fading off into obscurity and ruins, Geller became more popular and rich than ever.

It makes us all less secure, and when you’re scared is when you want magic. Skilled cons are amazing at working it. And really, we all have a vulnerability if someone has no scruples and we know little enough.

listening to him when he guested on the Long John Nebel show. Long John specialized in wackos, and Randi was one of the guests who brought us back to earth.

Saw him a lot on TV. Johnny Carson was a fair amateur magician and had a good time with Randi exposing the frauds. I seem to remember him on Ed Sullivan, too.

Lots of video out there should you do the search.

Carson was no fool. I won’t spoil it but it’s cool.

It's an old trick and Carson knew it. Randi certainly knew the trick.

Gellar blew it and tried to bullshit his way out of it.
