(23,147 posts)I believe FL snd WV lead the pack with illegal places that open up, dispense pain pills to everyone for a few months - year(s), then move on, just ahead of the law, coincidentally.

(7,286 posts)There *were* alot of pill mills but I think Rick Scott clamped down on them and Drs and opened the way for more rehab
I know healthcare providers in the state are watched like a hawk. They are all required to take education on opiates, even ancillary health care providers

(9,213 posts)many of them are not approved medical centers and do things that are questionable by psychiatrists in the rest of the country.
Also, they mislead their patients about whether or not the treatment is covered by insurance, so they tell their patients their insurance is accepted there, not telling them it is out of network. Then, the patient is there for a month or so, getting questionable treatment and then they get a bill for $80,000 and get wiped out by the facility. I've seen it happen MANY times.
You know there is a problem when they offer to fly people in from across the country to go to their center. Then when the people get done, they don't have a follow-up treatment plan with local psychologists/psychiatrists and they relapse, and then they'll fly them back down again.
In a previous job I studied many of them for fraud but what they are doing is completely legal, just unethical financially and harmful to the patients.

(10,171 posts)I would think that's one positive reason. I would rather go there to climb out of a drug and alcohol hole than look out the windows of a place in Minnesota or Wisconsin in February.
