Trump eyes mental institutions as answer to gun violence

WASHINGTON — When shots rang out last year at a high school in Parkland, Florida, leaving 17 people dead, President Donald Trump quickly turned his thoughts to creating more mental institutions.

When back-to-back mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, jolted the nation earlier this month, Trump again spoke of "building new facilities" for the mentally ill as a way to reduce mass shootings.

"We don't have those institutions anymore and people can't get proper care," Trump lamented at a New Hampshire campaign rally not long after the latest shootings.

Now, in response to Trump's concerns, White House staff members are looking for ways to incorporate the president's desire for more institutions into a long list of other measures aimed at reducing gun violence.

What is needed is a significant increase in funding for mental healthcare, not institutions. YOHABLO Aug 2019 #3

eyeing mental institutions as an answer to Trump? We can dream, huh? Padded cell, straight jacket, drooling, mumbling. Hey, it's TIME FOR YOUR MEDS! "Hillary's emails stole my ferret and ate my wall. I am the best popcorn...I pop them better! Aliens...aliens know that...they're saying...ancient cardboard cutouts of me...send 'em books. Mooga!"

Plus, he is way off base, except for being on his base, which is basically all he is based on and his base loves it.

There are some deeper issues involved, but the nuance is too much for gas bags.

And some of us? We know what directions his mind tends to bounce by now. He heard of involuntary commitments and saw them as power to subvert for his own purposes and enjoyment.

As for the labor shortages from his persecution of immigrants, how about forced labor, humanely "solving" unemployment and other crime problems in the process?
