(135,874 posts)A majority of Democrats in the House of Representatives support opening an impeachment inquiry against Mr. Trump, and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler told CNN earlier this month that his committee had started "formal impeachment proceedings." He also said that the committee would decide whether to bring articles of impeachment to the House floor before the end of the year.

(90,364 posts)... Massacre.
It's a bullshit headline from the article, impeachment starts with showing the crimes or why he should be impeached but relatively speaking that's a high number
SHRED
(28,136 posts)Of why Speaker Pelosi is repeating that headline then?
What am I missing?

(90,364 posts).... to take away any and all narratives from Red Don.
Red Don has a good day is always smashed by breaking news on revelations of him committing crimes.
One of the ways a candidate is taken down in the polls is scandals during an election year even if they're made up like Clinton's emails which PALE in comparison to Trumps welcoming Russian help and is OOJ.
To start impeachment hearings and further the process now would be politically silly not because the people wouldn't be behind it, the polling numbers relative to Nixon shows they would, but it wouldn't have the impact that it should of exposing Red Don and the Kremlin KKKlan.
That's my prayer, I would be livid if we get to next year and the "too late" excuses start up.

(18,486 posts)If they rushed an impeachment vote now, it will fail and that would be the end of it. The House wouldn't get a second bite at the apple, so not only would Trump be able to say he was exonerated, he'd get to crow that he was exonerated by a Democratic House. And that would be the end of that.
Fortunately, Pelosi understands this better than many of the more impatient among our left flank and isn't going to let them push her into a trap. She's playing this right, gradually building public support while her committees gather evidence (and contrary to what some seem to believe, hearings aren't the only way to gather evidence), and when the time is right, she'll go for it. She knows what she's doing.

(18,486 posts)There's a reason that Pelosi isn't saying it. But I'm sure that even if she did, some people would just ignore what she said and still keep claiming that the Judiciary Committee hasn't started an impeachment inquiry, just like they're doing now as they pretend the committee hasn't said, in no uncertain terms, that it has.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) admitted in public Thursday evening that his panel is conducting formal impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

(6,916 posts)- 1/3 of the country is us: paying attention to the legitimate news. Worried about the country.
- 1/3 of the country is brainwashed by Fox and Limbaugh: suckered by the Republican billionaires that run the rightwing media, falsely hating immigrants and minorities while the billionaires rob them blind.
- 1/3 of the country is disengaged from news and politics: paying little attention.
The only things that break through to the last third are huge events where the media speaks as one. Pearl Harbor. 9/11. Maybe My Lai. Since the GOP privatized pensions into 401ks, stock market events can also break through.
What happened in the Watergate Hearings is that last third was reached by the hearings and news coverage. Thats why Nixons approval went from around 40% to around 20%.
Democrats in 2019 have failed to achieve that kind of news coverage. Fox is a huge obstacle, but they also have failed to speak in a single voice with a single message. And bothsidesism in our legitimate media has also prevented them from spreading the truth.

(31,404 posts)that Trump is a traitorous, lying, incompetent, white supremacist, narcissist out to line his own pockets, those of his family, and the ultra rich Republicans who give not one fu*k about his character.
This morning the woman who staffs the concierge desk in my apartment building did not know what I was talking about when I mentioned Dorian. Had no clue that this was a record setting hurricane hovering off the coast of Florida, destroying the Bahamas. She told me she doesn't watch the news. She is not alone.

(22,600 posts)It's an exercise in futility since the point of impeachment is to remove the president from office and that will never happen.
Besides, in just over a year we have an election that is a sure way to remove Trump from office.
That is if everybody on the Left who normally votes shows up and casts their ballots for the candidate of the Democratic Party--no excuses, no pouting, no purity tests--just do it.
I find it stunning why everybody does not agree with me and what I believe, but then, that's life.
SHRED
(28,136 posts)Was not because people don't agree with me.
I find it stunning because of his obvious destructive and cruel behavior that doesn't incite contempt in the vast majority. It's not like he's hiding it.
uponit7771
(90,364 posts)... called that off by saying he's going to cheat and there's nothing stopping him from doing just that.
We can go through impeachment proceedings and not forward for removal for the sake of getting Red Don's approval numbers in the 20s and if he steals the election after that congress doesn't have to certify it.

(22,600 posts)"I told you so".
But I'm pretty sure that won't be happening.
There are however lots of other conspiracy theories to choose from, but get over impeachment and work to get a Democrat elected because impeachment is not going to happen.

We have the ability to slow crawl impeachment proceedings for the sake of getting Red Don's approval numbers in the Nixon area and if he steals the election closely or not then congress doesn't have to certify the election.
