(1,639 posts)But I know fabrics and basic dressmaking techniques.
The sleeves of her top are broad flounces cut on the bias. The point of cutting fabric on the bias is to highlight the draping, flowing quality of the cloth. This material has very little drape to maximize.
Note the section of the hem on the peplum of her top that has been blown up by the wind. See the ragged edge? You would expect to see that on the hem of a pair of old jeans, not a dress worn to any sort of formal occasion.
The color is perfect for a World War II reenactment of the storming of Omaha Beach. Mind you, there are some people whose coloring might be flattered by such a shade; Ms. Trump is not one of them.
So to sum up, the fabric is wrong for the design, the construction is terrible, and the color may be useful for covering up pea soup vomit stains.
Work it girl!

(51,630 posts)Did you see her earlier photo...she left a clip for an extension in her hair. So much for her new "bob" making her seem "more businesslike so she will be taken seriously".

(24,051 posts)The fabric is pretty much the color of fatigues, and looks about as stiff and unyielding as real fatigues. I used to have some from my time in the AF reserves. No drape at all - they could almost stand at attention without me being in them.
I wonder how many people today know what a peplum is? I happen to be one of them.

(35,736 posts)I used to design and sew garments as a hobby, so I know what you are talking about. I wouldn't have thought about the appropriateness of the fabric for a cut on the bias, but now that you mention it, yes, it doesn't make sense. I can't believe she would even buy a garment with such poor construction (ragged seam finish).
Also strange is the epaulets, which totally do not go with the style of garment. Just very weird, because an epaulet goes with military-type styling and the sleeves on this garment are anything but.
And then there is the complex tie business going on at the midriff.
Really, the whole garment is just strange and from a designer or stylist point of view, doesn't work.

You are correct in saying that the dress doesn't work. But then, neither does its wearer.
