...This incident with the pen, drawing an extra line around Alabama is not going to go away. How about Dukakis riding around in a tank?..remember that one? (1988) How about, "I am not a crook." (Nov 1973 ) Is that a good one? There are plenty more. But the "thing with the pen, drawing a line...(and evidently Trump drew the line) is going to go down for all time. He will be known as, "Mr. "Sharpie" Trump. (Sept 2019)
..Take that one to the bank.

(145,489 posts)I would not count our chickens right now. The economy is not hurting and trump may be re-elected.

(38,439 posts)...Trump lies about anything and everything. People are disgusted in my opinion. He can't stop, it is what he is, and who he is. Yes, he might get re-elected. But, I don't think so. This one with the pen and the line will never be forgotten. We will see. But one thing I think is for sure: "More to come with this show, stay tuned."

(22,156 posts)unless the Russians step in it big time, and massively interfere with our elections, he'll be sent packing. If the interference is too massive and noticeable, then we'll have a problem right there and then, and the election will be held up in limbo. It'll be obvious to all if the interference gets too obvious, so we'll have this going for us.

(7,447 posts)plenty of signs showing slowing and weakness.
Consumer confidence is steadily dropping too so this isn't just me whistling past the graveyard, consumers (aka voters) see it too.
So do plenty of economists.
His days of running on a strong economy have more or less ended.

(13,262 posts)We have thought over and over that some outrage or stupidity would finish him off. Has something changed?

This isn't just about outrage.

(38,439 posts)It is a very stupid lie, and everyone knows it. Too late. When jokes are told about "Sharpies" then people will think about all the other lies he told. Trump is now the "King of Sharpies."

I thought "Grab them by the pussy," and mocking the disabled reporter, and a million other things would have ended it for him before the election, but...here we are.
Stuart G
(38,439 posts)Discussing "pussies" kind of crude. This one is not just stupid,,,,,so stupid, stupid beyond stupid
and everyone can laugh at the stupidity. The pussy quote, may not be appreciated as much as this one.

(58,785 posts)Lying and smearing now "sharpying"? "They've got their Sharpies out for Harris"?
But for projections, don't make the mistake of comparing how the Democratic Party's mostly liberal voters would react with how today's hyperpartisan conservatives do. I was 100% wrong when we learned Trump was surrounded by Russians and at least "flirting with treason" and I happily assumed he was out. Even came here to share relief at the good news...
Imagining the (now-usual) pain and embarrassment this must have caused Alabama's Republicans especially is worth a sadistic smile, though. They so deserve all he dishes. If this doesn't lose him the election (mental disorder, depravity, treason and sexual predation didn't), at least we can hope it's pushed a few more, already long fed up with humiliation, into finally deciding they can't vote for him.
Straw by straw...
