A team of Trump administration officials toured a California facility once used by the Federal Aviation Administration this week as they searched for a potential site to relocate homeless people, according to three government officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private tour.
President Trump has directed aides to launch a major crackdown on homelessness in California, spurring an effort across multiple government agencies to determine how to deal with sprawling tent camps on the streets of Los Angeles and other cities, officials said.
Trump is expected to visit California on Tuesday and Wednesday. One administration official with knowledge of Trumps visit to California said there were discussions about an announcement related to Californias growing homeless problem next week, but a second official said that any decision could be premature and that it was not on the current schedule for the trip.
Trump has asked aides to figure out how the hell we can get these people off the streets, one senior administration official said.
The FAA facility toured by administration officials is located in or near Los Angeles, but its precise name or whereabouts or whether it is a current or former government facility were not immediately known.

There's an active Marine contingent there for security, who run in full camo, that provides security.

I keep expecting to see a "Under New Manager" sign out front, or a golden-tinted "Trump" on the guard tower.

(12,712 posts)the hypocrisy option they have and the little membership cards they carry give them the right to turn on a dime when necessary.
You could say that the ReFacists in general are at war. A war to retain and increase their power as their relevance and base decreases demographically and otherwise. Desperation makes for ruthless opponents, however, that could easily be turned to our advantage since it can also make them more vulnerable.
What is of concern is the potential for a no holds barred grab and potential entrenchment at all costs.

(21,188 posts)certainly not voluntarily and I see this not ending well for those people who go.
Besides there will be massive protests if he appears in California. I bet there is a campaign fundraiser for him planned in Los Angeles the same time. Little photo op then go shake money for the rich who could pay more taxes to help these home.ess people.

(15,805 posts)Federal Gov involved? Are they really in the business of paying and managing community homeless shelters, and where does all this money come from since the House wouldn't give him a dime.
Trump's minions can't manage their children's concentration camps so why would they do better with homeless people who need multiple tiers of assistance? Since when did Trump ever show any compassion or concern for anyone other than himself!
So this looks more like a staged photo op for Trump to take cheap potshots at California.

Note: the use of the word "crackdown" has some serious connotations, as well. I posted the definition in this context earlier.

(33,643 posts)He knows LA won't let the Feds into their sanctuary city for the express purpose of rounding up immigrants, but if they make it look like a humanitarian action ... maybe they'll convince enough city pols (who I'm sure are generally not fans of the encampments) to let them in for this purpose.
