UK: Liberal Democrats formally adopt 'Stop Brexit' policy

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s Liberal Democrats party on Sunday toughened its anti-Brexit stance, formally adopting a policy to stop the country from leaving the European Union if it wins power at a national election.

The party holds just 18 seats in Britain’s 650-seat parliament but has cast itself as the only ‘Stop Brexit’ party, hoping to pick up votes from the 16 million who voted to remain in the EU in 2016 and win enough seats to form what would be an unprecedented Liberal Democrat government.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a Conservative, is promising to leave the EU on Oct. 31 with or without a Brexit deal. But the policy has divided his own party, costing him his majority in parliament and making an early general election likely.

The Liberal Democrats party conference on Sunday voted to formally adopt a policy to revoke the ‘Article 50’ notice filed in March 2017 which notified the EU of Britain’s intention to quit the bloc. This would effectively cancel Brexit.

“We will put an end there and then to the Brexit nightmare that is dragging the whole country down and tearing us apart, and start immediately tackling the reasons people voted to leave in the first place,” the party’s Brexit spokesman Tom Brake said.

The Cameron-Clegg coalition government is the origin of this entire mess.
None of them can be trusted

Will do massively well. Even better if Johnson doesn't do a deal with Farage.

The parties agreed Britain would be a "positive participant" in the European Union, although there would be "no further transfer of sovereignty or powers over the course of the next Parliament"

Cameron used the referendum as a bollocksed-up ploy to quieten the Conservative 'eurosceptics' for the 2015 election, in a bid to strengthen his powerhold over the Tories. He alone, is - to my mind - entirely responsible for initiating the current shit-show the UK currently finds itself in. Then the slimy $@#& fucked off to leave the country deal with his mess - Arsehole.

Clegg merely facilitated getting the Tories into power in 2010. He, and the Lib Dems, paid dearly for that.
