If Pence was up to his neck in drumpf's Ukraine extortion - would it not be wise of Pelosi to maintain an appearance of neutrality, given she's next in line to the Presidency?

(90,865 posts)They belatedly realized he was such a lifelong crook he was completely unfit. Nixon had to go -- but not at the cost of Agnew taking over.
So some wise heads in the party went to Gerald Ford and asked if he would take the VP job. They literally said, "Gerry, search your conscience," because they still had enough conscience left to understand how bad the situation was.
So Congressman Ford got the VP spot by appointment, not election.
That allowed the GOP in the House and Senate to let Nixon go. And ultimately, Nixon went.
The House Speaker never got within a mile of being POTUS.
If I understand the Constitution correctly, the line of succession applies to a mass death event.

(28 posts)If Pence were POTUS for even 15 minutes, his first (and probably only) act would be to name a new VP. Which won't be Nancy Pelosi.

Maybe just dreaming, but my point is, it could explain her reticence? That she is contemplating stepping into the Presidency.

(131,202 posts)Rather, I suspect she's trying to tone things down to enable challenged Dem congress-critters to maintain their seats, AND to enable hopefuls to take over repug seats. I may be wrong.
