He's an anti tax the rich, anti government regulations, Reagan Republican.

They do come in more than the Fundy flavor.

Why does he support rMoney-Lyin' Ryan?

Why did he support McCain-Palin?

Why was he a lifelong friend/supporter of Ronald Reagan?

Listen up, Clint: You can't spout platitudes in "interviews" to pander to your film fans on the one hand, and then actively, politically tout for enemies of the VERY THING you profess to support on the other.

This, my friends, is trying to have it both ways--and it is BULLSHIT and I see it coming a mile away.

Don't give ME those platitudes, Clint. If you were serious about your pronouncements, you wouldn't be backing the idiots you've backed for half a fucking century.

Like Judge Judy sez: Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

without him. They went so far right that he sees them coming back up on his left. He hasn't been paying close enough attention to what the hell is going on and stupidly agreed to go speak for a group that holds only a few of the same values that he does.

He got exactly what he deserved for doing so in a time when it matters like life and death to the people.

A vote for a repiglican is a vote by a traitor or a fool. Clint is a fool.

But he needs to fake it like he "cares" so his fans won't abandon him. He thinks people will sit up and say "Oh, Clint--he's one of the GOOD ones." Well, no he ain't!

He was good friends--to the point where PRESIDENT Reagan called him to congratulate him on his landslide mayoral victory--with Saint "Catsup Is a Vegetable/Welfare Queen in the Cadillac" Ronnie. How does anyone reconcile that shit?

He knows what they're about. He's not been blindsided. He's known what they have been about since Nixon launched the Southern Strategy.

His money matters more. Someone should tell the old fool he can't take it with him.

Probably payback for treatment of Ron Paul and his supporters.

A bit of Ralph Ellison through Sacha Cohn.

that. He managed to support McCain-Palin last time around.

See post eight. He's just playing at giving a shit about people--because he likes that money and he doesn't want to alienate any fans.

You might also watch Jon Stewart's take on Eastwood's performance.

I saw Clint as throwing red meat to the lions.

He was appealing to the base.

That crowd was not sitting on its hands--it was on its feet, spitting, screaming, stomping, hollering and clapping up a storm.

I don't think Eastwood "punked" anyone. I look at his life--he has been a Republican for the last half CENTURY at least. He was "besties" with Ronnie Reagan. He voted for McCain-Palin. How many times does a man have to demonstrate that he's a selfish asshole before people will believe it?

There is no pony at the bottom of Eastwood's pile of shit--it is pointless to look for it. Eastwood has beliefs that are not consonant with those of the Democratic party--and they are deal-BREAKERS. He loves his money far more than he loves his fellow man. That's his failing!

No claim that Eastwood is a progressive Democrat. He is probably more of an Eisenhower Republican, towards the libertarian side. BUT he has supported many positions that are consistent with those of DU. For same-sex marriage, pro-choice, anti-war, against secret wire taps, anti Gitmo, etc. He also supported Dem candidates like CA Gov Grey Davis.

(I am confused about your repeated "He loves his money" statements. Any specific reason other than just being a Repub?)

If you didn't bother to read the DU thread I linked (as I suspect) and you did not bother to look at Jon Stewart, you really should comment further. You heard what you expected to hear and are angry and dismissive. The RW Repubs heard in it what they expected to hear and cheered loudly for statements completely opposite to those in their platform and espoused by their candidates.

I think you and they missed the point. It doesn't matter since neither you nor they are likely to change your mind. It might matter to some swing voters (also not in on the "joke&quot who will see Clint as the symbol and voice of the Republicans, in spite of all their prior efforts to hide it and to suppress and hint of it in public.

on a Wild Goose chase trying to find a vague reference you made. You made the assertion, the duty is YOURS to provide a link.

I followed the link you did provide, and I found nothing in it that was controlling as regard Eastwood's actual BEHAVIOR. Talk is cheap. Actions speak MUCH louder than words. I agree with the sense of many on that thread that he's just a griping old Republican. Sometimes, a crazy old man talking to a chair IS a crazy old man talking to a chair.

I, OTOH, gave you a few facts about Eastwood. He was no "Eisenhower" Republican, I have no idea where you drew that idea; it's totally false-- Eisenhower wanted to reduce the defense budget, educate kids well in good public schools, build infrastructure; he bellowed warnings about the MIC. Eastwood--he's a fucking REAGAN REPUBLICAN--catsup is a vegetable, welfare queens, lower taxes, no government regs because they get in the way. Me-me-ME is his meme. Again:

--He was besties with Saint Ronnie, who called to congratulate him on his win as the REPUBLICAN mayor of Carmel--way back in the eighties. His platform was lowering taxes and getting the zoning board off people's asses so they could do whatever they pleased with their property in that historic/scenic area.

--Supported/voted for McCain-Palin.

--Endorsed--like it or not--RMoney/Lyin' Ryan.

How much more "proof" do you need?

Anyone who mouths platitudes about equality, and then votes for people who are AGAINST EQUALITY, aren't really "for" Equality. They're just saying that shit so they don't alienate the paying customers who patronize their product. Talk, as I said, is cheap, but he has NEVER put his money or his vote where his mouth supposedly is. His votes go to people who HATE GAYS AND OPPOSE CHOICE.

That's not rocket science. There is no Equality Pony at the bottom of that pile of Eastwood Shit. There's no Pro-Choice Puppy in that pile, either. He's voting for people who want to make "that sort of thing" ILLEGAL.

Clint Eastwood is not "pulling anyone's leg" or "playing a great con" or a "secret liberal"---he is a mean, nasty selfish old man who makes commercially successful movies and who HATES taxes, government and zoning regulations, and everything he has done for the last half century and THEN some bears this out. The guy can't even have a lasting personal relationship (as evidenced by his string of 'baby mamas' over the years) --- he's just not a nice guy. And he thought talking to a chair, and having an invisible Obama say "Go fuck yourself" not once, but twice, was somehow "funny." Real classy. Not.

He will learn--as we all will, one day--that he can't take it with him. His legacy will be a few films of note, and a shitload of selfishness. And of course, this little GOP convention footnote, which will be even more humiliating as time passes.

In the meantime, I'll negate his cheap talk vote with my vote, which will go towards candidates who actually support equality and choice, and who don't have crazy, chair talking cheerleaders.

Most DUers seem able to find TDS on their own so I rarely see anyone doing the details. Did not mean to inconvenience you and force you go spend so much of your time on such an expressive post.

"Link?" would have been sufficient.

Here is a thread about TDS with video link that should be familiar. You posted to it on Saturday.
