Trump resigns (or is removed)
Pence gets impeached right after because he was clearly involved in the activities that got Trump impeached.
These have to happen fast enough that Pence can't nominate a replacement VP (which requires both houses of Congress to approve... it's only happened a couple times-- Ford and then Ford's own VP Rockefeller I think).
The speaker of the house is next in line after the VP, so if Pence were convicted, she'd automatically be president.
However, McConnell will make sure that doesn't happen, I'm certain. He'll find some way (maybe by not letting Pence's trial happen before the election) to stop the process.
That's okay. Pelosi can welcome the new Democratic president and with the new Democratic Senate Majority Leader <
sit down with him or her and plan a great legislative agenda for 2021. A new First 100 Days!
