Republicans Call Emergency Meeting As Trump's Presidency Goes Up In Flames

With Democrats aggressively pushing ahead with their impeachment inquiry, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) convened a conference call on Monday afternoon where he urged members of his leadership team and GOP committee leaders to get on the same messaging page, according to multiple lawmakers and aides.
<snip>

Part of the challenge for Republicans is that Democrats are moving forward quickly with their impeachment probe, even working over the two-week recess. And new damning details about Trump’s communications with foreign leaders kept popping up over the weekend, forcing Republicans to play whack-a-mole and complicating their messaging strategy just ahead of the Sunday news shows where a number of GOP lawmakers and White House officials struggled to defend the president.
<snip>

Better talking points won’t save Trump and Republicans

Maybe talking points are effective in a standard, right-versus-left political debate. But the reason Republicans are failing in their messaging – and they will continue to fail – is that this isn’t a standard right-versus-left argument.

This is about a president of the United States who sought to use taxpayer dollars to extort a foreign power
into giving him information about a political opponent. It’s really that simple. - PoiticusUSA

Oh sorry un-American rethugs, are our presentations of the facts quickly into the news cycle not allowing for your lies to catch up?

Maybe you should get on our side, the right side of the law, the Constitution and history. Your party's going down this time!

Are they going to find out how many of them can fit into a Volkswagen Bug?

Not only are their tactics deflection and fallacies, this time they have to drag them out and overuse them and...oh my, why isn't it working? Law maybe? Facts, perhaps? Patriotism?

I take no pleasure in seeing grown men, who know better and profess to be Christians, despoil themselves with lies, hypocracy, and corruption for a vile and degenerate Trump. I find it sad and loathsome. Yet here we are. All of us dragged down and humiliated as the world watches this farce unfold.

I am sorry that you that kind of reaction to my comment.

I don't know if your assumptions about my remarks are correct though. The humor was obviously ridicule. I have spent much time investigating the process and not just the contents. Maybe you have noticed the tactics I mentioned. It helps to have a certain about of detachment to do that. I would hope that exposing that would be beneficial and I consider it important.

I think sarcasm and ridicule are in order considering the factitious and ridiculous tactics the Republicans are using and that does give me a sense of relief. I don't equate humor with condoning their actions, however.

I don't know how that equates with not recognizing the threat that we face or what prompts you to imply I am behaving like an adolescent and ad hominum is unproductive really. I don't know how that would contribute to the conversation, either.

Well, thanks for your opinion. We all have our point of view. Take it easy. We will make it through this together.

Be Well!

Thanks! I have done that too. We all do it at times. These are tough times and the pressure builds up and leaks out.

When you notice it, that's helpful. You know, mindfulness. Then, you move on.

You are not alone. It is getting to anyone who cares at all about our country. You would have to be in a coma not to be affected.

Take Care. Relax more if you can and have some fun. Love your people more!

Appreciated!

I have no doubt in my mind Mitch hates Trump. He's trying to figure out if there is a way to preserver their Senate Majority through this.

The difficulty is Trump isn't Nixon. Nixon didn't have 25% of the electorate that would watch him murder a child and say it is good. How do you get through this without losing that 25% is what Mitch is trying to figure out.

The best case scenario is that the GOP turns on Trump and sacrifices him by convicting him in the Senate. It'll fracture the Republican Party, but that's for the best. The real crazies, Trump's True Believers, will break away and form their own party, which will be politically impotent and irrelevant. Perhaps we may experience a miracle and see a conservative party that, while opposition, is at least loyal and reasonable opposition.

That scenario is wildly hopeful and optimistic, I know. I like to think that most people, including most conservatives, are fundamentally decent at heart. If those types of conservatives can successfully purge the Trumpsters from their midst, it may happen, and America would be the better for it.

When people who care about how government works take the time to understand how government works and are put in charge of an investigation. Republicans for the longest time used investigations to harass people, especially the Clintons. I sometimes wonder if they even cared that she made them look foolish because they at least had a narrative that they could give to their stupider constituents - they're murderers who have routinely sold out the country when they're not running a kid sex trafficking ring from the non-existent basement of a pizza place. This of course is just to distract us from letting Mexicans stream across the border to build all the FEMA re-education camps where members of the Taliban will turn us all Muslim, gay, and... VEGAN!!!

Democrats know Trump is destroying America, and they are coming for him hard and fast, and republicans, used to being able to at least somewhat control the narrative are getting steamrolled.

And it's a beautiful thing.

On edit: Insert NRA boilerplate about taking our guns into my conspiracy theory.

“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”
