Yellowstone tourist injured after falling into hot spring

A 48-year-old tourist was severely burned Sunday after falling into a hot spring near Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.

Cade Edmond Siemers, a U.S. citizen who lives in India, told rangers that he had wandered beyond the safety of the boardwalk with a flashlight in the dark. Siemers fell into scalding water near Old Faithful's cone some time before midnight.

Despite burns covering much of his body, Siemers made it back to his room at the Old Faithful Inn and telephoned for help, the park stated in a news release issued Monday.

Rangers said they detected evidence of alcohol use. At dawn Monday they found one of Siemers' shoes, a hat, and a beer can near the geyser. They also found footprints leading to and from Old Faithful, and blood on the boardwalk.

It's my understanding that adult drownings (not quite the same, but related) almost always involve alcohol.

Someone who's been drinking, might well blow off "don't drink and swim". But if "swim with a buddy" has gotten through to them, they might well swim with a buddy. Even if they've been drinking. Even if the buddy has been drinking.

Strikes me as a very sensible thing.

big time, but at least he still has one.

Reminds of that teenager a couple years ago who strolled far into a dangerous field and then slipped and disappeared into one. His sister ran for help, but his even bones had been dissolved by the time they were able to attempt to retrieve his body.

how drunk I would have to be to take a walk on a geyser cone. I'd be back in the room throwing up before I got to that point. I guess I'm not much of a drinker.
