Marcy Wheeler explains why it doesn't matter that NYT named the Whistleblower as a CIA person.

Weeks before the NY Times wrote its report, Team Trump ALREADY KNEW that the whistle blower was CIA.

The CIA officer made the report to the CIA General Counsel, who then went to the WH and the DOJ with the complaint.

So the only thing that changed because of the NYTimes was that now the public knows it, too. But the Whistleblower is primarily at risk from Team Trump, not from the public.

The second paragraph of the NYT story that identified that the Ukraine whistleblower as a CIA employee describes the CIA’s General Counsel, Courtney Simmons Elwood, telling first the White House and then DOJ about the complaint.

The officer first shared information about potential abuse of power and a White House cover-up with the C.I.A.’s top lawyer through an anonymous process, some of the people said. The lawyer shared the officer’s concerns with White House and Justice Department officials, following policy.

Some trumpsters could get the WB in their sights if given half a chance.

And Team Trump could find out and expose this person at any time.

We're not in normal times. I do fear for this person's life and that of their family as well.

that the dirty sleaze in the White House knew but didn't reveal to the public. Says a lot to me.
The whistleblower is at risk (period). If I recall correctly, the whistleblower's lawyer wasn't too happy with the revelation. I don't buy the NYT excuses. Poor judgment as far as I'm concerned.

I don't see the article as absolution for the NYT getting scoopy to the point of endangerment.

That said, I like how Marcy reveals that the White House knew the whistleblower was CIA all along.

I wonder if they told the NYT?
