I don't think it matters. With what we are seeing I believe many of them will turn. I don't care why they do it. For some it will have nothing to do with patriotism. Our only goal needs to be to make Trump so toxic that they can't fight for him. From my vantage point that already seems to be happening.

We can quibble about patriotism but the bottom line is the rule of law and democracy.

I could care less what their reason for doing so is. The bottom line is not the rule of law and democracy. The bottom line is making Trump so toxic that they can't support him. That they will vote for impeachment. It doesn't matter if they do it for self-serving reasons or for the rule of law and democracy. A vote for impeachment by a Republican is a vote for impeachment.

Yes that matters, to me. They have lost my confidence forever but I would still like to see that small glimmer of integrity

Zip, zero, nada, nil. There is absolutely zero chance that patriotic Republican senators are in on impeachment, because there are NO Republican senators who put country before party. Therefore, there are no patriotic Republican senators.

I predict that Trump will be impeached and Republicans in the Senate will acquit him in less than 48 hours.

All this wishful thinking that Moscow Mitch and all the RepubliCONS are suddenly aware of the orange traitors crimes and are willing to fairly access the charges, is a ruse to pass off the impeachment ASAP.

They want it moved out of the House so they can squash it. The American filthy rich capitalist kings still have plans for the fat blob and his Slovenian sex worker. They want the richest man in the world, Putin, and his stolen wealth to control the US. As long as they can make more profit, they are happy with the situation no matter how the mass of citizens are affected.

The people who are controlling the US put Traitor Trump and his Slovenian sex work into the White House and they are not done with him yet.

There absolutely are dozens of Republican Senators who feel horrible about all of this and are pained to have to support Trump. But they're too cowardly to speak out publicly as they fear his voters.

If they believe it is going to hurt them in their next election, then they might act?

At present, I think many Republicans would like to see someone other than Donald Trump at the head of their ticket. But unfortunately, they are shackled to the useful idiots known as the Trump "base".
