Don't Worry About Pence if Trump Resigns

It's possible if things get too hot for Trump, he may look for a deal similar to the one Nixon got (which he shouldn't have received) where Nixon was allowed to step down and resign to avoid criminal charges. I'd hate for Trump to skirt accountability like that, but there is a precedent for it and I'm sure people are working behind the scenes to make that happen. Trump has no shame though, unlike Nixon...so Trump may refuse to step down and he may fight impeachment which is new territory in American history.

If Pence DOES take over the reins of the WH, don't worry about him. He'll only be in office for a year. I HIGHLY doubt he wins an election because he's not the guy the Trump cultists support the most. Pence is more akin to traditional Republicans and isn't an outsider the way Trump was when he came in. This is important context and I don't see the GOP surviving an impeachment resignation.

And he lacks charisma. I’m not sure he’d even run for re-election I’m that scenario.

he'd likely be too tarnished by Trump to run for re-election.

That may even be part of an agreement where Trump steps down and Pence takes over, on the condition that he doesn't run again.

This is probably the solution and way out of this mess that is their best option.

... going to arrange a resignation by trump, the timing is critical. They have to do it before the primaries begin so other republican candidates can get in the races (Kasich, Romney, et al ). They do not want to run Pence.

behind him, and more. Everyone who insists on blowing off Vice President Pence should take a look at who'd support him as their candidate for president.

All of those, and more, would vote for Pence TO VOTE AGAINST DEMOCRATS. Time to face up. Those people voted for Trump TO DEFEAT DEMOCRATS and would vote for Pence's dog IF THAT WAS HOW THEY DEFEATED DEMOCRATS.

Democrats run an international child trafficking ring. Or other things "just as bad" for the most who can't get behind that. Pence has also spent years as a talented, rabble-rousing RW RADIO HOST. Pence is a religious and culturally conservative extremist who knows how to please Trump's extremists and also how to be be seen as an upgrade for Trump by mainstream pubs. He'd have all the best, most ruthless speech writers money could buy and no need to avoid offending Trump by being good on the stump.

As for being a follower, yes, he's a major authoritarian who follows god and works with god's agents among the plutocrats. No one should assume that means he's weak or be fooled by his act as Trump's loyal lap dog, the creepy discipline of which scares me.

As for relatively modest intelligence for a man at his level, it's been good enough so far. As president he'd have all the power and ruthless advisers Trump does AND focus that same discipline on working with McConnell and McCarthy to consolidate authoritarian power.

This man in this position scares me.

Did someone make a deal with Nixon? What, he couldn't have resigned if he wanted to? Ford couldn't pardon him if he wanted to? I doubt any Democrat signed on to that.

as he was so clearly out of his league. He is so inept and unqualified it's not funny anymore, but no, somehow no one in the repug party wanted anything to do with Pence or they would have done something right off the bat. That's my theory for now.
