Trump Is Testing His Tyranny

Openly and blatantly. By threatening a whistleblower, going after his likely 2020 opponent and even after his previous opponent, he's pushing the envelope to see just how far he can use nonsensical statements and outright lies to distract from his problem.

That is what tyrants do. When accused of something, they respond with false counter-accusations. They threaten. They make false claims. They have their underlings do illegal things in an attempt to change the story.

Will it work? That remains to be seen, I think. It has worked for other tyrants. It could work here, if we're not careful and firm in our commitment to get to the truth of the matter.

Let's hope he doesn't succeed with his distraction tactics, because if he does we are well and truly screwed.

That he has his itchy finger on the nukes!

I feel like we are catching up to him. The key here is not allowing his underlings to throw the middle finger at Congress by ignoring and flouting subpoenas. Lookin' at you Pompeo and Rudy. Somebody needs to see serious consequences like jail. You can charge fines, but good luck getting them to write the check!

Thanks for the post MM.

But we need them to escalate and speed up the process of holding these people accountable. All of the Trumpsters have so far skated away with the obstruction. C'mon Adam Schiff - go get 'em!

You are taking for granted that he actually HAS a thought process. I always figured he was residing in his lizard brain most of the time.

8. Good assessment.

It looks like the GOP and Trump are counting on fallacies to see them through. In fact, one might notice that these tactics have been par for the course all along with them and it does help them sway some public opinion, as per the Red States and the results they get from buying it, for example.

Watching this play out, it seem that their deflections and "whataboutism" and false equivalences will become glaringly apparent in contrast to the facts and now, the law itself. It does not seem to have the same gravity or impact that it once did. They seem to practice "gossip politics" and we don't need that at all.

When you hear them, (Reps, etc.) talk, you can even catch the methodology in action as if it is a scripted loop of obfuscation and distraction that painstakingly avoids the reality and fact of the matter like the plague. So, that is one benefit of this crises, if the people and the media, take note and refuse it blatantly and persistently, it may not only reveal an important lesson about the workings of the GOP in general, it may be the essential way to know our opponent well and diminish their attempts to subvert our democracy in a big way.

With the expediency and stress of their attempts to spin it, their shady side is certainly showing--glaring to be precise. The trick is to stay on that tactic, point it out and refuse to accept it any longer. We'll see, especially if the GOP stays stuck in that repetitive loop of formulas and propaganda.

and woe be to those who do not follow his directives. He finally made his way into a position (with help) so he really can be a tyrant in the usual sense of the word. You are correct that those who are trying to hold him accountable need to proceed with caution to make sure he doesn’t slither off. He has so damaged the office of the President and to the structures that undergird our nation that he must be stopped and punished. His narcissism demands that he hold his ground, no matter what.

To remove him and many others , and its only a matter of timing , and getting everything arranged to happen. I think they have so much to leak out and use against him it may take months but not years. He wont make it to the election , and they won;t have time to replace him, unless the gop start completely going against him now.

Keep them on their heels. Just about everything they do is a trial-balloon, to gauge the polls. Trump can’t get anything done while he’s fighting for his political life, and fighting to stay out of jail. We keep supporting our lawmakers. Adam Schiff landed some good punches the other day. Trump’s tweets are directly proportional to his anxiety.
